We love Bawn TV! As you may recall, the Blackville stars Chris June (About Him: The Revolution, Raising Eli, Twisted) and Rico Pruitt (About Him, About Justin, L.I.T., Living For The Weekend).

The best description of the series is rumored to be Greenleaf meets Saints & Sinners–JUICY!

We managed to get our hands on a few stills from the series as well as a sweet video from Keith Pettway and LaTamra Smith who will be playing the roles of “Jeffery and Elizabeth Blackville,”‘ respectively. We have to say these are two really attractive people and from what we have seen from their intro their characters are very dynamic. They may very well give James and Lady Mae Greenleaf a run for their money and salvation. Check out the still from the series below and be sure you keep your eyes peeled for Blackville coming later this fall exclusively on Bawn TV! Click here to subscribe! Happy viewing!

[REVIEW] Love & Tragedy…”A Beautiful Cruel Thing”(@ABCTseries) is Breathtaking

What’s love without tragedy? It’s an age old question that we still don’t have an answer for. Love and tragedy. The juxtaposition of these aspects of life is paired so frequently in literature and cinematic history that one might liken them to a “cosmic peanut butter and jelly sandwich.” Romeo and Juliet, Mark Antony and Cleopatra, Bonnie & Clyde–each amazing, but all star-crossed. Enter the premise of A Beautiful Cruel Thing, based on Chad (JoVanni Colon) and Myron (Rico Milan), a couple who has just moved from Atlanta to Miami to get a new lease on life. However, this new lease is hampered by Myron’s health; leaving them with a limited amount of time for their love.

a beautiful cruel thing

A Beautiful Cruel Thing is unique among the web series we have seen that it is a primarily a “mockumentary “(fake documentary) of an ill-fated romance. The series truly centers on their love and experiences, while foreshadowing Myron’s imminent demise. It truly a beautiful, yet cruel thing to experience and watch the love between the two of them knowing in just a matter of time it will end in tragedy. Still, the series is worth watching, and for those hopeless romantics out there it truly tells you that it is better to have love and lost, than to never have loved at all.”  You can watch A Beautiful Cruel Thing when you subscribe by clicking here.

What We Liked

-The mortality throughout the film made the relationship all the more believable and endearing. These men are on borrowed time. You truly have to measure your life in love.

What We Loved

-The chemistry between the two actors is so amazing and it flows deeply and smoothly.

-The execution and cinematography of this series is breathtaking. From the beach scenes, to the lovemaking, even them getting ready for the day. There was love throughout the series in the

-As aforementioned we loved the originality of this web series. There is no other like it! Indeed a mockumentary of an ill-fated romance is worth watching and exploring.

What We Hated

Rico Milan

-The series needs a supporting cast. Yes, it is a love story between Myron and Chad, but more characters–friends and/or family–would’ve added depth to the series.

-Some of the scenes dragged on entirely too long. In as series like this some momentum is necessary to keep your attention.

[REVIEW] We’ve Got All The Feels for Here TV’s (@heretv) “Single Man Problems!”

The Web World is always growing. It seems like there is some new web series on an hourly basis. However, one of the things we know the Web World can use is more diversity, especially when it comes to its LGBT web series. “Why so serious?” The Joker asked in “The Dark Knight,” and it’s definitely a question of ours here at HeyMikeyATL. Sure the lives of many LGBT people have been rife with struggles and pain, but there’s a lot of love, laughter, and joy to see as well. So bring on the comedies! Thankfully, the folks over at Here TV have heard our cry and sent a hilarious new web series, Single Man Problems!

Thankfully, the folks over at Here TV have heard our cry and sent a hilarious new web series, Single Man Problems!

Single Man Problems centers on a millennial Black Gay man named Ronnie Maxwell (Keefe Grimes) looking for love in all the typical places–namely online! Along the way, he surprisingly and hilariously, faces issues of colorism, becomes a catfish, and deals with balancing the love life of his needy, straight best friend/roommate, Emmanuel (Michel Vidal). Ronnie’s character is highly relatable and adorable. In a 2010’s “kinda world you’ll be glad” to know you got this series to make light of your dating blues! You can check out the series yourself by subscribing to Here TV by clicking here.

What We Liked

Keefe Grimes as “Ronnie”

-New Web series actors! The genre can definitely use some new players, and we are more than welcoming this new, diverse cast to the game!

-The acting was amazing and on point. The delivery, speed, and chemistry between the characters–even those with minor roles–made this series flow and POP!

What We Loved

Single Man Problems here tv

(l-r) Michel Vidal, Shaniqua J. West, and Keefe Grimes in “Single Man Problems” (2019)

-Keefe Grimes you are our new best friend! Issa Rae may be our favorite “Awkward Black Girl;”  but as “Ronnie” you are definitely in the running to being our “Insecure Black Guy.”

-The friendship between Ronnie and Emmanuel. It’s high time we see more platonic friendships between gay and straight (we don’t mean bi-curious or questioning) men in film. They are boys and it shows in their banter and chemistry!

-The series captivates you from the jump. It’s relatability is hilariously and amazingly frightening. We cannot wait to see what is next for Ronnie!

What We Hated

-Each episode definitely needs to be longer! At least thirty minutes. Just as we get pulled in we are left wanting more.

-We need to see more of Emmanuel’s girlfriend, Melinda (Shaniqua J. West). Hopefully there’s more background info for her in future episodes. We do not need her in the backdrop.

[REVIEW] Tripp Ali, Gary Lavard, & Javonte Brownlee SHINE in “Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You”

It is no secret that we love our web series at HeyMikeyATL; more importantly we like those that are quite profound. Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You is just such a web series! As the latest production from director Lamont Pierre’s Arthouse TV Network, it marks Tripp Ali triumphant return to the mini-screen. The series centers on a man, “Zeke” (Tripp Ali), who spends his nights hooking up with various men to satiate his apparent sexual addiction and depression as he travels toward an unknown destination. Each of these men has a sexual vice of their own, each different, or deranged, but always thought provoking.

someday this pain will be useful to you tripp ali

Despite its long title, Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You, definitely stands out among web series in its gritty, dark, and still humane approach to sexuality and gay men. No single character can throw a stone as they are each surrounded in proverbial “glass houses.” Tripp is definitely the true “King of Stream,” or “Web King” as we like to say (here comes the shade). Trust us you have never seen him like this and from the couple of episodes we were privy to see, we must tell you it is some of his best work! Joining Tripp, are other veteran Web Stars, Gary Lavard (About Him, Honest Men) and Javontae Brownlee (L.I.T., Living 4 The Weekend). The characters they each play touch on issues so taboo and timely it will compel you into acts of introspection and reprehension! You can see the series for yourself by subscribing here.

What We Liked

tripp ali and javontae brownlee in someday this pain will be useful to you

Tripp Ali and Javontae Brownlee

-Tripp Ali headlining a series with this content matter. No offense, but few other web actors have the gall or earthiness to pull off such a role.

-The cinematography of this entire series from the lighting to the sound was amazing.

-The story line is fresh and unique, with real world elements many people in the world, straight or gay can relate to.

What We Loved

-The love scenes were sensual and well done. Nothing too graphic, but not boring either. The chemistry between each of the characters was real–and Tripp does something NEW we have never seen him do in previous series.

-The emphasis on showing that all people deserve to be loved, and challenging the stigma surrounding HIV.

-Gary Lavard, as “Shep!” You have never seen Gary in a role like this. Indeed, we forgot he was Gary Lavard and bought into this persona wholly. Kudos to the acting in the revelation of his character’s sexual vice.

-Seeing Javontae Brownlee branching out into a new network and tackling such a heavy issue. Mr. Brownlee we would love to see you expand your repertoire even more. Contact us.

-Lamont Pierre is a cinematic genius and it shows in nearly every detail of this project. His work is superior to most, and visually captivating.

What We Hated

gary lavard someday this pain will be useful to you

-The episodes were too short. Just as you are drawn in, it is time to say goodbye.

-Some scenes lasted too long, we felt at times the momentum the episode had built began to stifle because of this.
