Web series, web series, web series! We love them and if you don’t you are so late to the party that it’s practically the next day! Here at HeyMikeyATL.com, we have seen just about everyone of them, but one series in particular is now near and dear to our hearts–TWISTED!

Rahim Brazil and Toni BryceFilmed and directed by Rahim Brazil, Twisted, the series begins with a woman being dumped from a car in the middle of nowhere. We soon learn that woman is Vanessa (Toni Bryce) a counselor at a local counseling center who runs a support group. There she is instrumental in the lives of the community, in particular, three young men–Nick, Alex, and Star.

Nick is an all-around good guy who is looking for love with the wrong guy, Robert (Robert Brown). Alex turns tricks on the Atlanta stroll, desperate to take care of his drug addict older brother, Marcus (Chris June). Star (Siren Chanel), however, is stuck in the support group as part of his probation. Still, he has not cleaned up his act, moonlighting as a “delivery boy” for drug dealers Duke (November) and Money (Deon Christen).

Herein lies the motif and tapestry of Twisted as each of these characters’ lives and story lines intertwine to make an “experience”–not your typical web series. Rahim Brazil has brilliantly rallied together mostly fresh, raw talent and seasoned it with his own experience, style, and decision to become a true show runner. When you watch the series you will be amazed by the aerial shots, visual aesthetic, and most of all stellar acting. We are particularly impressed with the talent of Toni Bryce–a name we are sure will be a household one very soon!

Last night we attended a private screening of Twisted at The Hangout, a local safe space and charitable organization for the LGBT youth of Atlanta. There, the entire cast gathered with their family and friends as Rahim presented the first three episodes of the series. Attendees included Anthony Bawn (director of H.I.M., Blackville, Cheetah In August, and District), Brandon Karson (H.I.M., Triangle, District), Cardo Ricardo (Pharm: The Series), and Thomas Mackey (About Him: The Revolution, Uncle Joey, Last Night In ATL).

Twisted Cast

Hosted by our very own Michael “Hey Mikey” Fanning, the screening was followed by a Q&A with the cast. The message reiterated from the cast overall was one of unity, support, and storytelling; that LGBT stories are viable and must be told! As Chris June so simply stated, “It’s about us…” Kudos Rahim Brazil, Kudos!

Be sure you come out this Sunday, to the Suite Lounge (375 Luckie St NW, Atlanta, GA 30313) for an all-black party and public screening for Twisted!

[TRAILER] Edgier, Darker, TWISTED! Rahim Brazil (@rahimbrazil) & Crew Return w/ “Twisted2: Family Secrets!”

Summer is young, Atlanta is sizzling, and The Web World continues to grow! For months now we have been teasing and talking about Rahim Brazil’s Twisted highly anticipated second series, Twisted 2: Family Secrets, and now we have the first official trailer for you to see!
When we last saw the characters of Twisted mayhem had ensued resulting in death, termination–oh and incarceration! Twisted 2: Family Secrets picks up where the chaos left off. Our motley crew seems to be trying to move on with their lives without the clinic, but that does not mean there’s no drama involved. In fact, from what we can tell from the trailer, the drama and chaos are only going to increase! Indeed this trailer shows that this second season will be edgier, darker, and pushing boundaries we may have not have seen for a while in a web se

As you can see Martel Star, November, Chris June, Siren, Robert Brown, and Toni Bryce reprise their roles of Nick, Duke, Marcus, Star, Robert, and Vanessa, respectively. These new faces, are relatively new to the Web World, most of them we recognize from Twisted outings or behind the scenes. Of the new faces we are excited to see include Marcus Jones, celebrity hairstylist & make up artist (he can do a lot more, but we cannot fill up this article with his accolades–GOOGLE HIM); Ebony Shinelle, a rising publicist in Atlanta who has her eyes and thumb print on a number of Web Stars and local rappers. Most of all, however, we are happy to see Rahim back in front of the camera! We wonder where his character fits in the grand scheme of things.

We have to say this has truly made our day. It is so good to see growth and as you know we sometimes have an affinity for the “darker” side of things at HeyMikeyATL. Still there are so many questions–How is Vanessa going to make ends meet? Does Marcus really have the balls to kill someone? Who is the light skinned vixen that has caught Star’s eye? You all just be sure to check back here for more updates on Twisted 2: Family Secrets! Happy viewing!

Memorial Day is gone, but that does not mean the fun is over. Apparently there is a new web reality series on the scene and it is all the rave! The G-Status Atlanta Hustle is it name and the Black gayfamous of Atlanta are taking center stage in this new series!

Normally we stick to Web Series and tend to leave the world of Web Reality alone; but when a few of our favorite people are in the mix we won’t dare turn a blind eye. Produced by Jah and KL Allen, the series centers around Sherrod Willis, Adrian Crear, Jr., Krisean Woods, Charle Xile, Cordae, Sir’Akeem, Zahfar, and Milan Jadda; each of them popular faces of Atlanta’s local Black LGBT community, and all trying to climb their way to the heights of success and true fame. Some of them have it, some of them want it, and well some we can tell we are going to wish they would STOP.

The super trailer for The G-Status Atlanta Hustle looks amazing and with appearances by familiar faces like Kontrol Magazine’s editor-in-chief, Julian Lark, Web Stars Chris JuneRahim Brazil and Gary Lavard, and our very own Michael “Hey Mikey” Fanning, we will definitely be tuning in.

Milan Jadda

Jah and KL may very well have a runaway hit on their hands and we are happy to witness the rise of its key players while gorging ourselves on the tea being spilled and shade being thrown. After all Atlanta would not be Atlanta if there was no entertaining drama, mayhem, and reads from its “kidz” (Snap, snap)! Congrats to the cast and crew!

“Just Porn w/ a Plot?” Jamari Fox (@itsjamarifox) Comments on LGBT Web Series! The LGBT Web World Responds!

Where do we go from here? That’s not just the title of an Olivia song, but a question many LGBT viewers are asking when it comes to the web series they have come to love and know. You can say the phenomenon of these web series began with the adoration and success of Freefall and then later fully catapulted to an entire genre after the runaway success of the first season of Signal 23 TV’s About Him.

Since then LGBT web series number in the dozens, each with their own stories love, tragedy, mayhem, lust, desire, and personal joy. However, in the last couple of years a few fans have become disgruntled with LGBT web series, relegating them to drawn porno scenes. In fact one infamous blogger, Jamari Fox, has likened them to being “just porn with a plot!

a typical signal23 production?
i love a good web series.

you know i love good tv.
with the right plot and characters,
it can really pull you in.
that being said,
i have noticed something with 98% of gay web series:

“PORN WITH A PLOT”

i mean,
am i lying?
i got a dm from foxholer malcolm about this today.
this is what he had to font

it’s hard to watch a gay web series because you’re so busy jackin off to it.
i’m seeing an abundance of porn stars in them too.
can i be honest?
no pun intended.

even tho this is a “tyson plus” production,
and i love everything he does,
i don’t even know what “honest men” is really about.
tried to get into it,
but all i saw was tripp ali:
