[Event Recap] Atlanta Showed Up & Out For Spotify's (@Spotify) RapCaviar Live

Spotify

Just in time to celebrate the birth of hip hop, Spotify kicked off their latest concert series, RapCaviar Live. What better place to kick off the highly anticipated concert series than in the city where trap music thrives, Atlanta. Hundreds of excited fans packed the Tabernacle to see the “Trap God” himself, Gucci Mane, Mike WiLL Made-It, and 6lack put on performances worthy of their positions on RapCaviar, Spotify’s most sought out hip hop playlist.

From beginning to end, RapCaviar Live was a showcase of Atlanta’s finest. Spotify brought the city out in a way no one expected! I walked in expecting a great show and left with a musical experience that will forever be embedded in my memory. Rapper Dae Dae took the stage and put on a head bobbing, dread shaking performance. Dae Dae’s energy on stage translated in his music. Word from word, the crowd recited the lyrics to “Wat U Mean” and “Spend It”. Next to follow was another one of Atlanta’s finest, K Camp. The Slum Lord gave the crowd a taste of slum life with the tracks “Cut Her Off” and “Slum Anthem.”

The killer songwriter and singer with the smoothest demeanor, 6lack hit the stage next. 6lack serenaded the crowd with a plethora of hits ranging from “Ex Calling and the certified Plantinum record, “PRBLMS.” The epitome of Sade’s smooth operator , 6lack left every woman in the audience in complete awe of his vocals and ability to connect with the crowd.

Mike WiLL Made-It

Mike WilLL turned his hour-long set into his personal studio session. The highly respected producer gave the crowd hit after hit and paid homage to one of Atlanta’s fallen angels, Shawty Lo. As expected, Mike WiLL didn’t leave the stage without giving fans one last hurrah. The energetic, hit makers from Mississippi, Rae Sremmurd, took the stage. The sibiling duo put on a headlining performance that brought the entire crowd to their feet.  The temperature in the Tabernacle went from 72 degrees to unbearably hot. The walls literally started to sweat. Rae Sremmurd’s performance was just the tip of the ice berg.

Gucci Mane

Caviar is never forgetting where you come from. After Gucci’s performance, it’s evident the Trap God never forgot the city that raised him. Gucci surprised the crowd by enlisting the help of : Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Playboi Carti, Lil Wop, Marlow, Rocko, Hoodrich Pablo Juan, Lil Baby, Trouble Trouble, and Ears. It’s no wonder why Gucci is known as the Trap God.

I’m sure I’m not the only person who listened to Spotify’s RapCaviar playlist to relive an incredible night of performances. RapCaviar Atlanta was a musical experience only Spotify can orchestrate. There’s no telling what RapCaviar will bring in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto. For your chance to catch RapCaviar Live in a city near you visit Ticketmaster.

It Happened! Disney-Fox Merger Returns X-Men & Fantastic Four to Marvel!

Today is officially the BEST DAY EVER! Disney and Fox have reached a $54 Billion Dollar deal, granting Disney the rights to the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and other television properties like the X-Files, and gain a majority stake in Hulu.

avengers vs x-men disney to buy fox

Today, Rupert Murdoch—Fox’s executive chairman—expressed his confidencein the acquisition’s potential to strengthen both companies:

“We are extremely proud of all that we have built at 21st Century Fox, and I firmly believe that this combination with Disney will unlock even more value for shareholders as the new Disney continues to set the pace in what is an exciting and dynamic industry.”

News of the deal comes after early reports that Fox proper was looking to unload 21st Century Fox in favor of focusing more on news and sports, its two other largest business endeavors. For Fox, this deal means a rather hefty payday but for Marvel, it’s more of a long-overdue homecoming.

For years now, some of Marvel Entertainment’s most iconic characters that first put the comics publisher on the map back in the 70s have been locked out of the MCU because of deals made during the 90s in which Marvel sold off the film rights to properties like the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and Deadpool. Now, Marvel can get to work on changing that, but it doesn’t mean that it will or even should happen anytime soon. Properties like Avatar, The Simpsons, FX Networks and National Geographic will also fold into Disney’s portfolio according to the official release.

While Fox’s X-Men and Fantastic Four movies weren’t always particularly good, the studio was finally in the process of beginning to carve out a rather distinctive and honestly refreshing voice in the superhero movie space with films like Logan, Deadpool, and The New Mutants. The sequels to the latter two movies are still due to be released on schedule (no word on the X-23-focused Logan followup) but there’s no telling what Marvel plans to do with its new toys now that it has them.

Side note, the true shade is the merger did not include Fox News. Clearly Disney has no time for the bullshit! #NoAlternativeFactsHere. Now transitioning on to better news, this means Storm and Black Panther will be an item, we may get that Avengers vs. X-Men movie, and above all else all of our favorite Marvel heroes get screen time together. We are just wondering how the two universes will merge. Maybe the Reality Stone, one of the Infinity Stones will play a part in making this happen? This a good look and an amazing business move Disney move! You have fanboys everywhere bowing in thanks!

“ResurreXion?” Marvel Revives 3 Major X-Men Characters Ahead of Fox-Disney Merger!

It has been a rough decade for the X-Men in Marvel Comics. Systematically speaking, the comic giant declared war on our mutant heroes after Fox insisted on keeping their movie rights to the iconic team. First, 99% of the comics’ mutants were depowered, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were made into enhanced humans, Terrrigen Mists (the gas that created the Inhumans) invaded Earth killing more mutants, and finally Jean Grey, Professor X, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Cyclops were all killed!

Well it looks like Marvel is opting to resurrect a few of the X-Men–Wolverine, Professor X, and Jean Grey!

The company hinted that many of the X-Men would make a return to the land of the fictionally living. Sources close to the Disney-Fox merger are reporting that not only is the merger taking place, but Marvel Comics knew of it well beforehand and opted to slowly return these key X-Men.

Jean Grey’s return is most surprising, since she has been gone from the comics for nearly twelve years. In her place, a time displaced teen version of hers has been wandering around. Now the actual Jean is returning and fans could not be happier. Wolverine’s resurrection comes thanks to the Space Stone, one of the infamous Infinity Stones. Meanwhile, after a battle with the Shadow King on the Astral Plane, an X-Men ally, Fantomex, sacrifices himself to return the Professor to the physical world.

There is no word on Cyclops or Nightcrawler’s resurrection, but we are sure the X-Men’s fearless leader will return soon to atone for his madness these last few years, and what would the X-Men be without their fuzzy blue elf! We are just glad this war on the X-Men is stopping. Maybe this means we will finally get some new X-Men cartoons, video games, and merchandise. Marvel make it happen!
