[Event Recap] Atlanta Showed Up & Out For Spotify's (@Spotify) RapCaviar Live

Spotify

Just in time to celebrate the birth of hip hop, Spotify kicked off their latest concert series, RapCaviar Live. What better place to kick off the highly anticipated concert series than in the city where trap music thrives, Atlanta. Hundreds of excited fans packed the Tabernacle to see the “Trap God” himself, Gucci Mane, Mike WiLL Made-It, and 6lack put on performances worthy of their positions on RapCaviar, Spotify’s most sought out hip hop playlist.

From beginning to end, RapCaviar Live was a showcase of Atlanta’s finest. Spotify brought the city out in a way no one expected! I walked in expecting a great show and left with a musical experience that will forever be embedded in my memory. Rapper Dae Dae took the stage and put on a head bobbing, dread shaking performance. Dae Dae’s energy on stage translated in his music. Word from word, the crowd recited the lyrics to “Wat U Mean” and “Spend It”. Next to follow was another one of Atlanta’s finest, K Camp. The Slum Lord gave the crowd a taste of slum life with the tracks “Cut Her Off” and “Slum Anthem.”

The killer songwriter and singer with the smoothest demeanor, 6lack hit the stage next. 6lack serenaded the crowd with a plethora of hits ranging from “Ex Calling and the certified Plantinum record, “PRBLMS.” The epitome of Sade’s smooth operator , 6lack left every woman in the audience in complete awe of his vocals and ability to connect with the crowd.

Mike WiLL Made-It

Mike WilLL turned his hour-long set into his personal studio session. The highly respected producer gave the crowd hit after hit and paid homage to one of Atlanta’s fallen angels, Shawty Lo. As expected, Mike WiLL didn’t leave the stage without giving fans one last hurrah. The energetic, hit makers from Mississippi, Rae Sremmurd, took the stage. The sibiling duo put on a headlining performance that brought the entire crowd to their feet.  The temperature in the Tabernacle went from 72 degrees to unbearably hot. The walls literally started to sweat. Rae Sremmurd’s performance was just the tip of the ice berg.

Gucci Mane

Caviar is never forgetting where you come from. After Gucci’s performance, it’s evident the Trap God never forgot the city that raised him. Gucci surprised the crowd by enlisting the help of : Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Playboi Carti, Lil Wop, Marlow, Rocko, Hoodrich Pablo Juan, Lil Baby, Trouble Trouble, and Ears. It’s no wonder why Gucci is known as the Trap God.

I’m sure I’m not the only person who listened to Spotify’s RapCaviar playlist to relive an incredible night of performances. RapCaviar Atlanta was a musical experience only Spotify can orchestrate. There’s no telling what RapCaviar will bring in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto. For your chance to catch RapCaviar Live in a city near you visit Ticketmaster.

Netflix continues to push the envelope with its amazing and innovative series. The latest being one of its most outlandish, and interestingly informative–Sex Education! The dramatic comedy centers on, Otis (Asa Butterfield), son of a sex and relationship therapist (Gillian Anderson), dealing with his own insecurities and phobias surrounding sex.

Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, and Emma Mackey in Sex Education (2019)

Otis, alongside his best friend, Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), are low on the totem pole in the high school hierarchy. This all begins to change for Otis when he begins to fall for Maeve (Emma Mackey) a girl who happens to be an amazing writer, but has been labeled as the school slut. Otis manages to unwittingly find a niche for himself forming a “clinic” with Maeve to help their classmates with various sexual issues and the hijinks ensue!

What We Liked:

-The dramatic and comedic tones of the show. It really shows life–and sex–at best can be bittersweet.

-The dynamic between Otis and his mother. Her profession juxtaposed by the awkwardness of his burgeoning sexuality and the tension of many teen-parent relationships is all too real.

-The love triangle between Otis, Jeffery, and Maeve.

-The diversity of sexuality and sexual situations. This show does The Kinsey Scale justice!

What We Loved:

-The friendship and bond between Otis and Eric. These two were as thick as thieves and their friendship really overcame a lot.

-Eric’s journey of self-love and discovery, and the love he received from his family and community. It’s a far cry from the unsavory “welcome” many LGBT people of color receive.

-The array of information about sex! All kinds of sex–DOPE!

What We Hated:

-We would have loved to learn more about Otis’s father. He should definitely make an appearance Season 2.

-The love story between Eric and his bully is “to be continued…” Hurry up Season 2!

A source close to Jackson told ET on Tuesday that after a busy year of work engagements that took her all over the globe, she “decided that she needed to take some time off to reboot, realign and prioritize her physical and emotional health.”

“She checked herself into a treatment facility to aid in her wellness plan,” the source said.

Jackson is looking forward to coming out of this revitalized and ready to tackle the exciting, new projects that await her, ET also learned.

ET spoke to Jackson’s aunt, La Toya, last April, where she said Michael told her to watch out for his daughter before he died.

“He’s always watching over her, I believe, to make sure that she’s on the right, proper path,” La Toya said. “Because he used to say things before [he died]… ‘OK, if something happens to me, make sure you watch over Paris, ’cause Paris has a personality. She loves the business, but I wanna make sure she’s OK.'”

“I believe that Paris can do whatever she wants — I truly believe that because the talent is there and she wants it,” she added. ” And when you want something bad enough, you’ll do it and think nothing of it. It comes natural to her.”

We are glad Paris is doing well and feeling better. Yes, she has had issues in the past mentally and emotionally, but that does not mean she is about to go off the deep end. In fact, we salute her for taking some time to care of her emotional, mental, and physical well being. This was something her father never quite grasped. Paris we are sending you positivity, love, and light!
