We love Yara Shahidi! This beautiful young actress is really making waves in Hollywood and we are loving every minute of her rise to the top. Part of that ascension will be starring in her own series, grown-ish, the name of her very own black-ish backdoor pilot spin-off!

As you saw in a last season when Yara’s character, Zoe Johnson, attended a weekend of student orientation at her college.

Freeform Gets Grown With ‘grown-ish’ (Formerly ‘college-ish’), Emily Arlook, Chris Parnell and Trevor Jackson ..

“grown-ish reflects what we’ll be dealing with in the show – that in between place where you’re not quite an adult but facing grown world problems for the first time,” said creator and executive producer Kenya Barris. “Where black-ish examines what it means to be black, grown-ish is an examination of what it is and what it means to be grown.”

Barris, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland and Brian Dobbins are executive producers of the series. grown-ish is one of two upcoming single-camera comedy series on Freeform, along with Alone Together.

Congratulations Yara we cannot wait for your grown-ish’s debut!

Rhythm + Flow stands out from other music competition series like American Idol and The Voice in its subject matter and rap/hip-hop roots, and with how it is being released via Netflix. Usually, Netflix releases all the episodes of it series at once allowing viewers to binge watch, however, Rhythm + Flow consists of nine episodes with three episodes being released each week until the finale. This is actually an idea TI suggested. “I didn’t want people just being able to go to the last episode, missing the journey, and spoiling it for everyone…I was like something like this has to be approached differently. ” TI’s input and wisdom are definitely an asset on the show, offering pertinent advice to competitors contrasting Chance’s straightforward approach and Cardi’s hilarious quips. “I bring longevity to the mix, because in this rap game you’ve got to have that to make your mark. Re-branding, evolving, and knowing how to hustle is what I’m teaching.”

The show eliminates contestants through cyphers, rap battles, live performances, and music videos that allow them to tell their backstories. TI admits the hardest part of being a judge is watching someone be eliminated that he feels would have won if they would have made it further in the competition. When asked if he is signing anyone that was eliminated he replies: “No comment.”

We cannot wait for you all to see Rhythm + Flow! Catch it on Netflix today!

There seems to be a time lapse in between Seasons 3 and 4 as Glimmer, Queen Angella’s daughter has become Queen of Bright Moon, and has a new more mature look. Meanwhile, Catra becomes the leader of The Horde, unaware Hordak Prime is prepared to raze Etherea. Adora, however, explores her connection even more so to She-Ra, learning she is far more than just a sword toting warrior princess. She is instead, a protector with a greater destiny than she, her friends, allies, or enemies know.

This LGBT friendly series continues to up the ante while paying homage to the original series. The depth, the design, and the storytelling is profound and complex. We cannot wait for the new season! Dear ABC we love you! This network continues to delivery on diversity and hits with its milestone television series that tell the most amazing stories.  The latest of these hits is none other than black-ish’s latest spinoff, mixed-ish!

mixed-ish cast

The series is a prequel to black-ish,  and based on Rainbow “Bow” Johnson’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) childhood as she transitioned from living on a commune to the real world. An additional kick arises as she and her siblings must learn to navigate the world as biracial children during a time when being “mixed” was still taboo.

This a series you can’t help but love as it tackles issues of conformity, being a Black woman in America, and how so many biracial children fill forced to pick a side when it comes to their ethnicity. It is wonderfully written and the cast is all-star with the likes of Mark Paul Gosselaar, Tika Sumpter, and more. We recently attended a screening for the first episode at Regal Hollywood 24 in Chamblee, GA. There, guests were able to take photos with a mixed-ish  background at the photo booth and were treated to beverages and snacks.

The series premiere of mixed-ish Tuesday,  September 24 at 9 PM EST! Check out the theme song of the series performed by Mariah Carey, In The Mix, below!
