Premium network EPIX released a brand-new tease for the original series Godfather of Harlem – premiering Sunday, September 29 and starring Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, Vincent D’Onofrio, Giancarlo Esposito, Paul Sorvino, Nigel Thatch and Ilfenesh Hadera. Premiering on EPIX on September 29, Godfather of Harlem is inspired by the story of infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned from ten years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. With the streets controlled by the Italian mob, Bumpy must take on the Genovese crime family to regain control.

During the brutal battle, he forms an alliance with radical preacher Malcolm X (Thatch) – catching Malcolm’s political rise in the cross hairs of social upheaval and a mob war that threatens to tear the city apart. Godfather of Harlem is a collision of the criminal underworld and the civil rights movement during one of the most tumultuous times in American history.

Produced by ABC Signature Studios, the 10-episode series is written by Narcos co-creator Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein. The series will launch on EPIX and EPIX NOW, the network’s new streaming service available for download in the App store for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV and in Google Play for Android phones and tablets.

This series is very reminiscent of an episode of American Gangsters! Forrest Whitaker is an amazing actor so we know it is going to be well acted and riveting. What do you think of Godfather of Harlem? Sound off in the comments section below!

When we last left Sam and Lionel discovered a secret organization pulling the string at Winchester, Cocoa was as power hungry as ever, Reggie and Joelle became a full-fledged couple, Troy was in a new relationship, and Sam and Gabe are still on the outs. This season so much comes to the forefront and changes when outside forces come into play, forcing the cast of characters to deal with real life, new life experiences, and possibly being puppets on a string!

Check out an additional trailer below!

We love the trailers and are glad to see other stars like Laverne Cox and Yvette Nicole Brown on board! What do you guys think of the new trailers and return of Dear White People? Sound off in the comments section below!

No More Nola! Netflix Cancels “She’s Gotta Have It” (@shesgottahaveit) After Two Seasons

We really wish we could “Say it ain’t so,” but it is true. Netflix has opted to cancel Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It after just two seasons. The second season of the series focused on Nola Darling’s newfound success as an unwitting mainstream artist not centered on her love affair with her three suitors from the previous season.

she's gotta have it canceled

The show’s second season premiered on the streaming service back on May 24, 2019. The show starred DeWanda Wise as Nola Darling, Anthony Ramos as Mars Blackmon, Lyriq Bent as Jamie Overstreet, Cleo Anthony as Greer Childs, Margot Bingham as Clorinda “Clo” Bradford, Chyna Layne as Shemekka Epps, and De’Adre Aziza as Raqueletta Moss.

Spike Lee is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and we’re thrilled he brought the series She’s Gotta Have It (1986, based on his first feature film) to Netflix,” Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix, said, per Variety. “While this is our last season, we’re very proud that it will be on our service for years to come, and excited to be working with Spike on his upcoming Netflix film Da 5 Bloods.”

Lee will reportedly shop the series around in hopes of finding it another home.

News of She’s Gotta Have It’s cancelation comes on the heels of reports that Netflix lost 130,000 subscribers in the U.S. during Q2. “Our missed forecast was across all regions, but slightly more so in regions with price increases,” Netflix said. The company pointed to their “content” as one of the reasons for the decline. “Rather, we think Q2’s content slate drove less growth in paid net adds than we anticipated.”

We hope Spike will find another network for She’s Gotta Have It. There is so much magic to this series, and it was the first that we know of to actually delve into Black art. Nola Darling we refuse to let you go!

Comprised of eight close-knit siblings, this funny, witty, daring and clever group must navigate the upper ten thousand’s marriage mart in search of romance, adventure and love.

QUOTE FROM CREATOR CHRIS VAN DUSEN:

“We could not have found a more gifted group of actors to bring Bridgerton to life.  When creating this series, the goal was to turn a very traditional genre on its head and make something fresh, smart, sexy and fun. That’s exactly what this cast embodies and I’m ridiculously excited to see them inhabit these characters and captivate viewers in their own incredibly brilliant ways.”

CAST:

 Phoebe Dynevor bridgerton

PHOEBE DYNEVOR (Younger, Dickensian) will play “DAPHNE BRIDGERTON.”

The picture-perfect young debutante has been waiting her entire life to make her grand debut on the marriage mart.  Poised to be the season of 1813’s forthcoming Incomparable, Daphne’s set to take the town by storm – but not everything goes exactly as planned for this diamond of the first water, especially after she meets a certain Duke.

Rege-Jean Page bridgerton

REGÉ-JEAN PAGE (For The People, Roots) will play “SIMON BASSET.”

Having newly returned to London, the Duke of Hastings finds himself the primary topic of conversation amongst marriage-minded misses and ambitious mamas alike.  Yet, for reasons of his own, our devastating Duke has zero interest in his title, society, or taking a wife.

Golda Rosheuvel bridgerton

GOLDA ROSHEUVEL (Silent Witness, Lady MacBeth) will play “QUEEN CHARLOTTE.”

The veritable tastemaker of London society, Queen Charlotte finds herself living for the sordid gossip that Lady Whistledown prints, though she’d swear she’s above such mundane musings.  It’s only when the ton’s newest gossip writer takes aim at the palace that Queen Charlotte knows she must do something about it.
