Fox has canceled six Black-led television series; REL, The Cool Kids, Lethal Weapon, Proven Innocent, Star, and now Empire, issues of diversity and racism are now swarming. Fox’s CEO, Charlie Collier, is addressing the issues, stating that diversity and inclusion are still a priority at the network. He also plans to make Empire’s  series finale a television event, but states there are no plans to bring Jussie Smollett back. Smollett’s character, “Jamal Lyon,” is one of the few openly Black Gay characters on network television.

Deadline reports that after five seasons of twists, turns and trysts, the Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson-led series will be bowing out after its upcoming sixth season.

“We are turning the final season into a large TV event, we are trying to go out guns a blazing,” Fox CEO Charlie Collier said of what will be Empire’s final season. “You allow fans to lean in and have the ending they deserve.”

And no, Fox has no plans whatsoever to involve embattled actor Jussie Smollett in any future episodes as the show rides off into the sunset. But thanks for asking.

“There’s an option to have Jussie in the series but we have no plans for that,” he said. Which sounds a lot like when you break up with your girlfriend, but aren’t quite ready to post memes about inner strength and moving on on Instagram.

Empire serves as the latest show on the network to get the axe. But more specifically, it’s the latest featuring a black lead.

This announcement of Empire’s demise comes on the heels of Fox pulling the plug on the Damon Wayans helmed-Lethal Weapon, Lil’ Rel Howery’s Rel, Russell Hornsby’s Proven Innocent, Lee Daniels’ Star and David Alan Grier’s The Cool Kids, denoting a troubling trend at the network.

But Collier insists that unlike other rival networks, diversity will remain a priority at Fox.

“The diversity of Fox is an issue that is so important and an ongoing effort for us to make sure we’re best in class. As I was looking at Fox and joining, what’s remarkable is that the history of this company and what it’s done in terms of diversity,” Collier said. “If you look across our slate in terms of scripted and unscripted and sports, we really are doing a good job but the job never stops. The effort continues, it never stops.”

We are also wondering what diversity looks like for Fox in the future, especially with Disney and the former’s merger. Black television series are often used to boost numbers on networks in distress, but in turn are often the first canceled. Interestingly, the rumor mill is churning and states there may be an Empire spin-off based on Gabourney Sidibe and Nicole Ari Parker’s characters. We will keep you posted.

Ash Ketchum and his Alola Region Pokemon Team

Ash Ketchum has to be the epitome of what it means to chase a dream. This kid, who’s been ten years old for decades now, has never given up on wanting to become the best pokemon trainer in the world. We have watched him battle goofy villains (Team Rocket), poachers, otherworldly beings, and even time travel all in the name of learning about the magical and powerful creatures inhabiting his world. We are surprised the folks over at Nintendo decided it was finally time to allow him to become a champion. Perhaps, they thought it would end the anime since he would theoretically have accomplished his goal. However, that is not the case, as he is allegedly headed (with Pikachu, of course) to the fabled Galar region (based off the United Kingdom). There, he’s expected to meet and catch new pokemon, make new friends, and try to win their league as well.

Whether you are still a pokemon fan or not, this is a momentous event in television history and should let you briefly flashback to your childhood. At the very least you should take away the notion of never giving up. You can fail a 1,000 times, but that one big win can change your life for the better and it will all be worth it. Congrats Ash!

The night started off all wrong when NeNe Leakes allegedly ‘came in with her bare breasts exposed,’ causing speculation as to whether or not she was under the influence. The photo above was taken by an onlooker — and it’s easy to see how NeNe’s girls could’ve made a guest appearance.

If you recall, NeNe JUST resumed filming with the rest of the ladies last month after her weeks-long suspension.

“No one cared that she was there and she got zero reaction from any of the ladies — including Marlo and Yovanna (who’s around as an ‘unofficial friend).’”

According to our sources, Yovanna and Porsha went at it as well as Kenya and NeNe.

“Yovanna is a snake. No one really likes her and it’s clear she’s only around to be the villain,” said the source.

All we can say is this is a bit much. We are not sure what could make all of them get to a point where they are ready to fight in a restaurant, but we are not surprised. Kenya and Nene are practically mortal enemies at this point; and Porsha and Yovanna (As you recall last season she stated she was “that bitch” at Clark Atlanta University in her heyday) are hot heads. Last season was rather lackluster so it seems the ladies are making up for their less than stellar peformance in 2018. Kenya, welcome back!

Aqualad coming out gay

News of Kaldur’ahm’s sexuality should not come as a surprise. In the canon of DC Comics he is also gay, with his sexuality being revealed a couple of years ago. Kaldur’ahm is not the only LGBT character seen in the series as the female vigilante, Bluebird, has expressed interest in Halo, a biologically female superhero who identifies as non-binary. The series seems to reflecting in the growing acceptance and understanding of gender and sexual fluidity.

Having a Black Gay Male superhero on a series of the magnitude, albeit, animated, is still a step in the right direction. It challenges stereotypes and serves as a powerful reminder that heroes comes in all shapes, sizes, races, and sexual preferences!  #PRIDE!
