The 2018 Bounce Trumpet Awards, the prestigious annual event celebrating African-American achievements and contributions, world premieres exclusively on Bounce on Sunday, February 11 at 9:00 p.m. ET.

The Red Carpet Pre-Show, featuring arrival interviews with the honorees, performers, presenters and stars, will air immediately beforehand at 8:30 p.m. ET; Ed GordonDemetria McKinney and Juhuan Jones host.

The 2018 Bounce Trumpet Awards is hosted by actors Larenz Tate (“Power”) and Erica Ash (“Survivor’s Remorse”) and the spectacular show includes powerful performances, moving tributes and appearances by many entertainers, politicians, activists, thought leaders and more.

  • A rousing musical tribute to So So Def Recordings Founder and honoree Jermaine Dupri which included performances by Anthony Hamilton, Bow Wow, Xscape and a surprise appearance by Ludacris that brought the house down. Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms joined for the presentation.
  • A crowd-pleasing celebration of honoree group Cameo featuring Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, Carl Thomas, Stokley Williams, Bilal and Mr. Talkboxx performing a medley of Cameo hits including “Single Life,” “Sparkle,” “She’s Strange,” “Rigor Mortis,” “Word Up!” and “Candy.” CeeLo Green presented the group their Lifetime Achievement Award and then joined in for the closing number.
  • Thrilling performances by Arrested Development, Michel’le and Major.
  • Estelle, V. Bozeman and We’ McDonald with a powerful rendition of “Conqueror” to open the show.
  • Sir the Baptist performing “Heaven” joined by Keke Wyatt, Donald Lawrence and the Kevin Lemon & Higher Calling choir.
  • Honoree Rhyon Brown lighting up the stage with an energetic performance of her hit single “After Party.”
  • Angie Stone, Lamman Rucker, Omar Gooding and Angell Conwell appearing as presenters, and more.

The 2018 Honorees were: Jermaine Dupri, the GRAMMY® Award-winning record producer, songwriter, and hip-hop artist who received The Music Innovation Award; Founder of Sundial Brands and new owner of Essence Communications Richelieu Dennis recognized with The Entrepreneur Award; Activist and National Co-Chair of the Women’s March Tamika Mallory who received The Impact Award; 13-year old social activist and author behind the #1000BlackGirlBooks Marley Dias who was presented with The Trailblazer Award; nuclear engineer and inventor Dr. Lonnie Johnson receiving The Innovator Award; Actress, singer and dancer Rhyon Brown who was given The Rising Star Award presented by McDonald’s and legendary American soul-influenced funk group Cameo being honored with The Lifetime Achievement Award.

Founded in 1992 by American Civil Rights leader Xernona Clayton, The Trumpet Awards were acquired by Bounce in 2016. The list of prestigious honorees over its 26-year history includes Muhammad Ali, Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx, Halle Berry, Stevie Wonder, The African-American Women of the United States Congress, Steve Harvey, Martin Luther King III, Janelle Monáe and Spike Lee. Queen & Slim filmmakers Lena Waithe and Melina Matsoukas took their first feature film coast-to-coast this week and the first stop was The Creative Collective’s CultureCon in Brooklyn where The Read’s Kid Fury and Crissle hosted a screening and post screening Q&A on Thursday, October 10th at Brooklyn Academy of Music’s (BAM) Rose Cinemas.

On Friday, they took the film west to The Underground Museum, a cultural gem in Los Angeles for a star studded screening with Black Hollywood. The screening was hosted by Solange and ended with a Q&A with The Treatment’s Evis Mitchell.

 The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Marlo Hampton hosts, alongside a few young woman from her charity, Glam It Up, Inc.!  The amazing event took place Atlanta’s Lenox Square Mall in the forever trendy store of MCM Worldwide. Guests in attendance included Nene Leakes, Porsha Williams, Tanya Smith,  Tammy Rivera, K Brunson, Nikko 2 Good, Gen Johnson, Tamela Le Mieux, Tiffany FOXX,and other industry friends and celebrities. The event was all the rave with amazing music, the Champagne pouring and the platters of elegant finger foods.

October, as the world knows, is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, or Pinktober, and MCM Worldwide at Lenox participated in spreading awareness with a section dedicated to all things and shades of pink, rose gold, and nudes to match as well as donating twenty percent of the nights proceeds to providing a Holiday party for the foster care girls services by Glam It Up, Inc. 

Speaking of GLAM, Marlo stepped out stylish as usual, a MCM signature print waist length leather jacket, with the biker gloves to match. They were laid over a see through peekaboo top and black leather jeans to match. Marlo came through with her inches, braided up into a low ponytail, almost hitting the floor– LITERALLY!! Everyone stepped out and stepped up, large MCM bags made their way out the door, ensuring the girls will have an enjoyable Christmas. It was a night to remember and HeyMikeyATL was definitely in the mix!

Hot Ticket! Yovanna Momplasir (@Yovanna_love) Celebrates Launch of ‘Momplaisir’

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Salon Moraee in Lindbergh, Atlanta’s flyest waited in anticipation for the debut collection from Yovanna Momplaisir.

Before the show, party-goers relaxed to the sounds of DJ Che Mack while sipping on any of the many different flavors of “Moskato,” a line of flavored moscatos, from the Moskato bar. Through the window everyone could feast their eyes on the models posing outside in their swimsuits. I was so busy soaking in the atmosphere  of gorgeous glittering Atlanta socialites that I hardly realized the show was starting.

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Salon Moraee in Lindbergh, a number of Atlanta’s flyest and finest citizens waited in anticipation for the debut collection from Yovanna Momplaisir.

Before the show, party-goers relaxed to the sounds of DJ Che Mack while sipping on any of the many different flavors of “Moskato,” a line of flavored moscatos, from the Moskato bar. Through the window everyone could feast their eyes on the models posing outside in their swimsuits. I was so busy soaking in the atmosphere  of gorgeous glittering Atlanta socialites that I hardly realized the show was starting.

Indeed what a show it was!  The red carpet was hosted by our very own Michael “Hey Mikey” Fanning. The first round of looks were the swimsuits we saw on the models earlier. Every model was pleasantly chic in their barely there swimsuits, which were accessorized with Momplaisir sunglasses. It was to everyone’s delight that the looks also featured hair pins that read “That Bitch”. This phrase, as we all know was made famous by Momplaisir on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. The ready to wear portion of the show was the icing on the cake.

The collection was tailor made for a woman on the go who works hard, but plays even harder. Everything from beautiful jumpsuits and formal gowns to the more casual logo tees and jeans, all possessed a sophistication held only by experts in the world of fashion.The pink looks sprinkled throughout were easy and flawless, with a few of the looks being accentuated by her Momplaisir fedoras. The climax of the show, of course, came at the end when Ms. Yovanna Momplaisir herself made her entrance during the finale. Her silver sequined blazer dress guaranteed she held all of the attention, and rightfully so. What better way to capitalize on such a classic moment in television history? I can see this collection being rocked by any and everyone. K. Daniel Talent produced an amazing event! Once everything was said and done, and I said my goodbyes, I left the party feeling like I had truly been a part of something special. Kudos to Yovanna and her team!
