The Web World grew just a little larger last night thanks to the premiere of 2018’s first hit web series, Love, Sex, & Marriage!

love sex and marriage show cast

It all went down at The Sandtown Pub, a cute little bar on the south side of Atlanta. There, family, friends, bloggers, and Web Stars gathered together to catch the screening of the series as well as lend their support to the cast. Needless to say it was hella fun!

The event was hosted by the director/creator of the series, Tre Floyd, and began with a performance by Sylvia Camile, singing Sweet Love. The night moved on with a cast interview by our very own Michael “Hey Mikey” Fanning, as he discussed with them what drew them to do the series, its relatability, how they get into character, their future projects, and the overall message of the series. Shortly thereafter, Grammy-nominated artist Phylle, nearly stole the show performing a medley of his own hit songs. (We have to say his music is now in heavy rotation on our Apple Music, check him out on iTunes!) Next, Web Star and director, Rahim Brazil interviewed Tre, discussing with him the directorial process, how his series stands out, his next project, and the importance of having a supportive network of people. Finally we screened the first episode of the series, Cheers!

Attendees included Rocc (H.I.M., The Come Up ATL, Currently Mikey w/ Rocc), Alex Jante (About Us, Kaleidoscope, About Him 2: The Revolution), Larry Whiteside (Whiteside Management), Alvin Agaratt (About Him, We Are Fam), Marquis Wiley (The Wiley Show) and as aforementioned Rahim Brazil (Twisted, About Him, H.I.M., Pharm, Kaleidoscope) and Mikey (HeyMikeyATL.com, Kontrol Magazine, Urban Socialites Magazine, Currently Mikey w/ Rocc, Blackville)!

About Love, Sex, & Marriage

The series centers on four friends; Ken (Rekio Thigpen-Holland), Vonte (Wendell Holmes), Andre (Marcus Jones), and Terrell (Savion Garcon). Ken prepares for his first anniversary party with his boyfriend, Darren (Larry Carter/Phylle) and enlists all his friends’ help. Vonte, his self-proclaimed best friend is all too happy to provide food from his prestigious restaurant, while Terrell is busy getting something else “done” with Deon (Alex Jante). Meanwhile, Andre is more concerned with borrowing his clothes and eating for free.

The four friends–all very different–still manage to pull it together just for Ken. However, Darren is not too happy with all the money Ken is spending for the party and in his own way outright questions if they should even be having one. Ken reminds him of which of them makes the most money and a fight ensues. Ken has to look to his for advice to return his happy home to normal. Meanwhile, we learn Darren is up to some dirt…You have to see the show for yourself to catch the rest. Simply subscribe by clicking here!

Needless to say this was an amazing event, bursting with positivity. Perhaps we have our generations’s Girlfriends or Golden Girls. It is really amazing that Tre Floyd was able to reach across the table to his family and friends to make his show happen. We can ALL learn a lesson from that. We will definitely be supporting this series and anything Tre Floyd has coming out. Check back here soon for more interviews with the cast! Welcome to the Web World you guys! Check out more pictures from last night in our gallery below!

[EVENT] NBC’s Luncheon w/ “The Village” Star, Frankie Faison (@FrankieFaison)!

NBC’s newest series, The Village, is undoubtedly turning out to be one of its greatest. Set in an eclectic apartment building in Brooklyn, it centers on a group of close knit neighbors whose lives, love, problems, and social issues all intertwine in heartwarming and heartbreaking ways making them a family of sorts. Heading this family as a patriarch is none other than Frankie Faison as “Ron Davis!” Ron is wise, funny, and of course the backbone of his makeshift dishing out love and wisdom where needed. HeyMikeyATL and Kontrol Magazine recently attended an NBC Luncheon filled with the other “Who’s Who” of Atlanta’s media community and got the opportunity for a sit down interview with Frankie himself!

Frankie has been in the in the entertainment industry for over forty years, with dozens of roles, and is known best for his roles on The Wire (2002) and the Hannibal Lecter franchise. At the luncheon Frankie discussed the secret to his career’s longevity and how his own village greatly impacted his life. “…I’ve had really thoughtful and impactful people in my life since elementary school–my whole community actually. I grew up in an all-black community and the people in my life saw I was a character, a real class clown [he laughs], but instead of punishing me or writing me off as a bad kid; they put me in the theater…there I was able to grow and cultivate and become the character I am today [he laughs].

As “Ron Davis,” Frankie embodies so much strength and understanding on the show, and when combined with the talents of Lorraine Toussaint, portraying Ron’s wife, “Patricia Davis,” you have quite a powerful, earthy couple. Frankie went on to discuss why he chose to do The Village, what it is like working with Lorraine, and his similarities and dissimilarities to his character. “He [‘Ron’] is the head of this chosen family of people–that’s what friends are, the family you choose–and he is a wise, upstanding, strong guy and I can identify with that. He’s like the ‘mayor’ of the neighborhood…then he likes to give wisdom to others and I find myself dispensing wisdom to the youngins on the set [he laughs]…I loved the script for The Village, it was well-written and I loved the stories. I’m down for any project that I can connect to and grow from. He then went on to discuss Lorraine. “When I found out she was on board I was thrilled. We came up in the industry together and she’s a respected colleague. She was perfect for the role and I can see us being the parents and grandparents of this situation…”

Frankie Faison is nothing short of amazing, encouraging rising and aspiring actors and entertainers to “Never give up. If this is what you want to do stay at it, believe in it, grow with it, and just don’t stop!” You can catch Frankie every Tuesday night, 10 PM EST!

Sometimes it really is good to feel like a kid again! That is exactly the experience we got when we attended The Lego Movie: The Second Part’s special event at Atlanta’s Lenox Mall, The Mini Room!

The Mini Room is a small room–kid-sized, to be exact–made like real lego pieces! A near kid-sized Emmett, from The Lego Movie, was even there! Check out a few photos from the awesome event, attended by our very own Michael “Hey Mikey” Fanning below!

We absolutely enjoyed ourselves at the event as you can see. We especially enjoyed the special backpacks/goodie bags we were given. It was filled with Lego Movie: The Second Part paraphernalia, including lego blocks and people featuring Lucy and Emmett from the movie. We have no doubt we are going to love this film when it comes out; and you will to. Be sure to catch it in theaters nationwide, Friday, February 8th!
