The Web World grew just a little larger last night thanks to the premiere of 2018’s first hit web series, Love, Sex, & Marriage!

love sex and marriage show cast

(l-r) Wendell Holmes (Vonte), Marcus Jones (Andre), Rekio Thigpen-Holland (Ken), Larry Carter/Phylle (Darren), and Savion Garcon (Terrell)

It all went down at The Sandtown Pub, a cute little bar on the south side of Atlanta. There, family, friends, bloggers, and Web Stars gathered together to catch the screening of the series as well as lend their support to the cast. Needless to say it was hella fun!

The event was hosted by the director/creator of the series, Tre Floyd, and began with a performance by Sylvia Camile, singing Sweet Love. The night moved on with a cast interview by our very own Michael “Hey Mikey” Fanning, as he discussed with them what drew them to do the series, its relatability, how they get into character, their future projects, and the overall message of the series. Shortly thereafter, Grammy-nominated artist Phylle, nearly stole the show performing a medley of his own hit songs. (We have to say his music is now in heavy rotation on our Apple Music, check him out on iTunes!) Next, Web Star and director, Rahim Brazil interviewed Tre, discussing with him the directorial process, how his series stands out, his next project, and the importance of having a supportive network of people. Finally we screened the first episode of the series, Cheers!

Attendees included Rocc (H.I.M., The Come Up ATL, Currently Mikey w/ Rocc), Alex Jante (About Us, Kaleidoscope, About Him 2: The Revolution), Larry Whiteside (Whiteside Management), Alvin Agaratt (About Him, We Are Fam), Marquis Wiley (The Wiley Show) and as aforementioned Rahim Brazil (Twisted, About Him, H.I.M., Pharm, Kaleidoscope) and Mikey (HeyMikeyATL.com, Kontrol Magazine, Urban Socialites Magazine, Currently Mikey w/ Rocc, Blackville)!

About Love, Sex, & Marriage

The series centers on four friends; Ken (Rekio Thigpen-Holland), Vonte (Wendell Holmes), Andre (Marcus Jones), and Terrell (Savion Garcon). Ken prepares for his first anniversary party with his boyfriend, Darren (Larry Carter/Phylle) and enlists all his friends’ help. Vonte, his self-proclaimed best friend is all too happy to provide food from his prestigious restaurant, while Terrell is busy getting something else “done” with Deon (Alex Jante). Meanwhile, Andre is more concerned with borrowing his clothes and eating for free.

The four friends–all very different–still manage to pull it together just for Ken. However, Darren is not too happy with all the money Ken is spending for the party and in his own way outright questions if they should even be having one. Ken reminds him of which of them makes the most money and a fight ensues. Ken has to look to his for advice to return his happy home to normal. Meanwhile, we learn Darren is up to some dirt…You have to see the show for yourself to catch the rest. Simply subscribe by clicking here!

Needless to say this was an amazing event, bursting with positivity. Perhaps we have our generations’s Girlfriends or Golden Girls. It is really amazing that Tre Floyd was able to reach across the table to his family and friends to make his show happen. We can ALL learn a lesson from that. We will definitely be supporting this series and anything Tre Floyd has coming out. Check back here soon for more interviews with the cast! Welcome to the Web World you guys! Check out more pictures from last night in our gallery below!

[EVENT RECAP] Rishawn Felton’s “Breaking The Cycle Empowerment Conference!”

Atlanta is an “eventful” city, and we mean that in the most sincerest terms. Indeed, there is an event for everything you can think of; business launches, re-branding, fashion shows, and even potato chip bag reveals (we are not joking). Seldom, however, at any of these events will you find food for your soul, medicine for your spirit, and genuine empowerment to fuel you through life. Thankfully, local Atlanta fashion stylist and philanthropist, Rishawn Felton, managed to give us just that with his panel discussion at the aptly named, “Breaking The Cycle Empowerment Conference!”

Rishawn Felton & Brandi Williams

The event took place at local Atlanta hot spot, The Buckhead Loft, where Rishawn, alongside the host and singer, Brandi Williams (Blaque), Dr. Shana Lewis (author/counselor), Tyler Burton (writer/journalist), Latonya Sampson McDonald (life coach/associate marriage family therapist), Byron Jamal (author and founder of PathFinder guide), Rodney Wash (television personality), Antwain Donte (motivational speaker/artistic director), and Christoper McKinley (motivational speaker/beauty enthusiast) tackled topics and issues surrounding spirituality, mental health, and racism. Noted attendees included Julian Lark (Celebrity stylist/Editor-in-chief of Kontrol Magazine), Michael “Hey Mikey” Fanning (media personality/radio host), Maurice Ravennah (philanthropist/CEO of Phoenix International, Inc. & Griffin Global Bank), Lipstick (television personality), Tramel Harris (television personality), and Martel Star (Web Star and artist).

Breaking The Cycle Empowerment Conference

The panel each had their own feelings about each topic, but all came with hope and belief that their past experiences and various fields of expertise would be able to help someone. The progress of the event was straightforward and to the point allowing ten minute intervals for a break between each topic of discussion, giving the guests chances to mingle and network. Each topic was one that hit close to home for so many. Spirituality and mental health in particular were quite jarring as panelists and guests opened up about the importance of a relationship with God and that all paths of belief were a way to connecting to Him personally. As for mental health, many disclosed how they were delivered from suicidal ideation, and challenged the stigma of seeking therapy in the African-American community. Lastly, as it pertained to racism the panelists discussed how hundreds of years of systematic racism and current oppression can and do have an effect on the spirit and psyche.

Yes, the topics at hand were heavy; but they were all the more timely. In the age of social media, rates of depression and suicide are at an all time high, people place themselves on unrealistic and unhealthy timetables, and people are mistaking self-confidence with self-consciousness. This conference was needed. Rishawn plans to do this annually, but is willing to make them more frequent as the need arrives. All we have to say is kudos, my friend.

We planned the Humbl Hustlr entrepreneurship workshop and community clean up with a goal to cultivate the next generation of leaders by providing knowledge and transformational skills needed in entrepreneurship, while cleaning the community and we did just that!

On Saturday, July 13th 26 young black men ages 11-17 and 35 black men representing black owned businesses across various industries came together at the Russell Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to build on the ideas and concepts of entrepreneurship and learn what it means to make an impact in the community. In addition to the entrepreneurs who mentored the young men we had the support of countless black owned businesses pitch in to create an experience they will never forget.

The event consisted of a workshop where the mentors helped the young men create a mission statement, social media marketing and branding plans for their business or service. Kayla Hutchinson, Social Media Manager and Event Manager, oversaw execution of the workshop. At the end of the workshop each group came together to pitch their project and share the new ideas they will be implementing. In other words, they learned the true meaning of  “boss up or get bossed around” as the men of the Future CEO and S.Q.U.A.D. say.

Elite Mobile Parties shuttle services then took the young men for a fun ride to the Vine City Center where they were met by music from Praise 102.5, their mentors and Bishop Lewis, the Chairman for the Vine City Civic Association Center to learn about the historic importance of the area. Bishop educated and motivated them saying, “whatever it is you want, you can do” before sending them off to clean the area. Marquise McAlpin of The Build Up LLC led the team in execution of the clean up.

Upon their return to the Vine City Center the young men were surprised to meet Atlanta City Councilman, Antonio Brown, be served ice cream from Bucks Ice Cream truck and a book bag full of goodies from our sponsors such as water bottles, note pads, gift cards, USB drives and hats.

Just like the saying “it takes a village” that was truly the same mentality that made this event such a success. Individuals and organizations from all over Atlanta came together to make this happen. Everyone from volunteers to sponsors played a major role in impacting not only the young men of The Startup ATL but also the Vine City Community. Events like this remind us of not only our duty to serve our community, but also the amazing things that we can accomplish when we come together.

Ambitions is so riveting and thrilling that we dared not blink an eye. Robin Givens is BACK in a starring role and the ageless beauty is as amazing as ever.! This cast is also chalked full of veteran Black actors and is even inclusive with a lesbian story line. We recently attended the premiere of the series hosted by OWN and it was equally amazing, as the cast, Will Power, and the YBFs (Young, Black, & Fabulous) of Atlanta came out in full force to show their support. Check out a few photos from the amazing event below:
