Last night, African-American tastemakers in Atlanta (including our very own Michael “Hey Mikey” Fanning), Los Angeles and New York were among the first to see Jordan Peele’s newest nightmare, US, as a part of the #USFirst screening program to give a first-look at the highly anticipated film. These screenings happened simultaneously, along with the SXSW premiere in Austin and ignited social media chatter throughout the night and was a trending topic on Twitter!

OWN never ceases to amaze us with its amazing series and original content. The network continues to push the envelope with self-care and love, and we are not talking about “Super Soul Sunday!” Instead one of its reality series, a vitamin/television show, “Family or Fiance,” has stolen our hearts and attention!

The event took place at The Gathering Spot, and began with a light lunch of various salads, croissants, cookies, chips, and of course “Cocktails & Cupcakes.” There Atlanta’s biggest in brightest in media gathered to ask longstanding questions about “Family or Fiance, and sought relationship advice from Tracy McMillan. Tracy discussed, among many things, how the concept of the show came to be, how they come up with the challenges for the show, difficult moments for her to watch, and even what to wear on a first date!

The overall theme of her discussion with us all was that we all want love and we have to know what boundaries to set in place for them for the sake of our romantic relationships. She also relayed that “people ultimately want to be together, but relationships are all about compromise and communication.” We can definitely eat (bites cupcake) and drink to that (downs Plushberry Lemonade)!

Catch the season premiere of “Family or Fiance” this Saturday, January 11th. Check your local television listings for showtimes!

The screening also featured a Q&A moderated by radio personality, Headkrack, where Rotimi was joined by his cast mate, Shane Johnson. Miss Black America Atlanta Pageant

2019 has been a momentous year for the crowning and acknowledgment of black beauty. For the first time in history, black women have been crowned as Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, Miss America, and Miss Universe!  This years’ show was centered around the platform “Beauty is Black.”   This event celebrated blackness in its many shades, as it should be celebrated–unapologetically.

The purpose of The Miss Black America Atlanta Pageant is to support, educate, and uplift its delegates through workshops, community service projects, educational courses in: etiquette, business, self care, physical and mental health awareness, and personal development. These endeavors culminate in a pageant production each year that celebrates the art, culture, and history of African American culture. The shining moment of this affair was the choosing, by way of areas of competition, of one delegate who will advance to the national Miss Black America Pageant representing the state of Georgia.
