Every artist doesn’t have to talk about selling drugs, popping bottles, or send subliminals to other artist to validate their own existence. Sometimes making good music is good enough. Josey Wellz has a catalog of songs to get you up and going!

Josey Wellz Hey Mikey ATL

Josey Wellz is from Atlanta, Georgia and has been in the game for 2 years. Some might call him a rapper and others might call him a singer. He can do it all! Wellz has a very smooth demeanor that translates directly into his music. I can honestly say that all of the songs I’ve heard from him are uniquely made and created with a concept in mind. All of the songs are catchy anthems but what really sales his music for me are his music videos.

“You Know”

“You Know” is pretty much a shout-out to his girl that she’s EVERY-THANG. His sound in this one is very modern to what “the kids” are listening to these days. During the video Wells is desperately trying to let his girl know that he’s feeling her so he follows her to the community mailboxes all the way to the community pool. haha.. I love the idea of this one. Wish more up-and-coming artist would pay attention.

“Met You Yet”

“Met You Yet” is my favorite track from Wellz. Something about this song reminds me of the 90’s. I’m thinking Akon with a little bit of Sean Paul. This particular video was shot in Ghana … yes Africa and it definitely pays homage to the African culture. Every video I see of Josey I can tell you that he’s always thoroughly enjoying himself and it’s that much easier for me to enjoy it with him.

“Looking Like”

Wellz is showing more love to women in “Looking Like”. It’s hard not to like his music when he’s choosing to uplift women rather than tear them down. Now everybody don’t look good enough to be in a magazine but I obviously see where he’s going with this one. Its hard not to root for someone who’s positive and creative. We need more artist like Josey but in the meantime let’s just uplift who we have.

“I Said What I Said!” Top 5 Female MC’s Of All Time!

Trying to make a Top 5 all time list is nearly impossible, so don’t email me about your dissatisfaction. Know that I have reason for my selections and you can agree or disagree. For an artist to be on my list they need numbers, staying power, and that one thing that separates them from the rest.

Top 5 Female MC Hey Mikey ATL

Trying to make a Top 5 all time list is nearly impossible, so don’t email me about your dissatisfaction. Know that I have reason for my selections and you can agree or disagree. For an artist to be on my list they need numbers, staying power, and that one thing that separates them from the rest.

5. Trina

Trina Hey Mikey ATL

At number 5 we have the “Diamond Princess” aka Trina. I definitely have a soft spot for her being that I was born in Florida. If you know anyone from the sunshine state or have visited, YOU KNOW Trin-Bean is gospel. Might even make you twerk that thang at the alter if you know what I mean. She makes this list for multiple reasons! None more than her being introduced to us in 1998 and now its 2019! 20 years in the game is unheard of for a female mc. Not to mention can you do any better than Pull Over? I rest my case.

“Look Back At Me” feat. Killer Mike

4. Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea Hey Mikey ATL

Coming in strong at number 4 is Iggy Azalea. I’ve already gotten so much push back for this selection but quite frankly IDGAF. Iggy is white and soooooo right. Lets be honest many can’t get with Iggy because she’s not black but momma is talented. (period) Her song Fancy charted at #1 on Billboard, not to mention she has 3 others that charted in the Top 10. Plus her music videos already have billions of views and are the best of any female of this new generation. From her natural beauty to new found dance moves, she’s iconic already.

“F*ck It Up” feat Kash Doll

3. Lil’ Kim

Lil Kim Hey Mikey ATL

At number 3 I have the blueprint, Lil Kim. The original Queen Bee is always number one in my heart but I’m still adjusting to her new sound post prison. As a young kid there was none better than Kim. She taught me what shade was and also solidified herself as a fashion icon. She is what I call the “Don Dada”. I still haven’t heard a female mc that can take me on a lyrical journey and also be raunchy at the same time. Just listen to Not Tonight Magic Stick, you’er welcome.

“Get Money” feat. The Notorious B.I.G

“Pray For Me” ft. Rick Ross & Musiq Soulchild

2. Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj Hey Mikey ATL

Nicki Minaj is my runner up at number 2. Minaj has to be Top 2 on any list for her resume alone. She is the most successful female mc of all time statistically. When everyone knows your lyrics to Itty Bitty Piggy and it’s before you drop an album, you are set. She is one of the most controversial woman in the game but she’s also one of the most talented mc’s to ever live. Pop, Rap, RnB … it doesn’t matter the genre. She slays everything!

“Massive Attack” feat. Sean Garrett

1.Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot

Missy Elliot Hey Mikey ATL

Finally at numero uno, I have Missy Elliot. She is without question number one in my eyes. With 20+ years in the game and having touched so many careers … Ciara, Monica,Tweet, Aaliyah, Fantasia Jasmine Sullivan …she’s a lock at the pole position. Not to mention her iconic hits like The Rain to Work It, she’s in a class by herself. I mean did you not see her perform at the VMA’s? It was the best performance I’ve seen from a female mc in the last 5 years, at least. Hell I don’t know any men that have done more for music than Missy. From her one-of-a-kind dance routines to her outlandish music videos she is, THAT GIRL.

I rest my case.

I know a lot of you have “Trust Issues” but seriously read this and don’t  miss out!

WeWereBorn Hey Mikey ATL

Speaking outside of my known love for music, this group is so innovative. The Duo, “WeWereBorn” consist of JeTwahn King and Berlin Naomi. JeTwahn and Berlin are some of most loving, down to earth, passionate artist you’ll ever see in the game. You know how you can turn on Adele’s “25” or Solange’s “A Seat at the Table” and listen to the whole album … they are that good.

“Trust Issues” – WeWereBorn

Trust Issues” is a smooth self reflecting RnB song that’s hard not to love. The video above also shows the creativity of the group and what to expect from them for the future.  I love the dynamics of this duo. JeTwahn always points me in the direction of the song and Berlin’s sexy verses always have me lusting for more.

The thing that excites me the most about them is that they are so young in their careers. To be able to put out hits like “Candy” and bangerz like “Bowflexxx” in their first full project leaves no doubt that they belong.

BowFlexxx – WeWereBorn

“Candy” – WeWereBorn

The Declaration (Interlude) – WeWereBorn

The sexy vocals on “The Declaration (Interlude)” sends chills down my spine. It definitely tickles my Brandy fancy. Just play any of the videos I’ve posted and tell me you aren’t impressed. The diversity of this group is endless. Ask yourself, do I want to be that one individual late to discovering the next musical sensation? Do yourself a favor and download “Ultrasound” now!

[ALBUM REVIEW] Lil Nas X- EP “7”

This EP completely caught me off guard. I wasn’t for sure what genre of music Lil Nas was going for, but I didn’t expect it to so far away from country. He’s definitely a Hip-Hop artist that’s into Country, Pop, Rock, a lil’ Indie, Jazz and so on. Overall the album is FUN. It’s his first body of work so I can’t say what his sound is or isn’t but I can tell you he gives us a buffet worth of songs. A lil’ Chinese, with some crab legs, and a giant watermelon!

Lil Nas X Hey Mikey ATL

1.Old Town Road Remix feat. Billy Rae Cyrus

Is the longest running Billboard number 1 of all time. Catch the thousands of videos people have made singing and dancing to the original and remix. I know some of us have grown tired of listening to the hit but it has made its own history.

2. Panini

The second song on the album is super catchy. It really showcases Lil Nas’s personality. Very electronic-based. The video has robots and is in the year 3000, very futuristic. LNX

3.F9mily (You & Me) & Travis Barker

The third track from “7” is rock-based. I was totally shocked to hear the guitar and drums in the background. Then I realized  Travis Barker is the same drummer from Blink 182. Very diverse. Would not think this was the same artist who made “Old Town Road”. Definitely a star who makes music for everyone. Lil Nas is NOT your typical Atlanta based artist.

4. Kick It

He obviously loves live instruments. The saxophone is instrumental. Song about “kick-n it” with a guy. The guy is obviously a known artist. He specifically states he replaced  the guy on billboard. That his sister loves and his uncle considers to be the G.O.A.T. Who could this be?

5. Rodeo feat. Cardi B

A mix between country and hip-hop. He definitely has a unique sound. Cardi B obviously brings the extra energy needed sense Lil Nas is speaking so monotone.

Cardi B & Nas X Hey Mikey ATL

6. Bring You Down

So far he has his sound cemented. Not afraid to have live music. The iconic choruses remind me of the bands from the 90’s. Able to create a classic rock song others would enjoy.

7. C7osure (You Like)

Diversity. He’s giving me Maroon 5 vibes. Song is different from everything on the EP. Ifi was in year 2000 this song would be exactly what I expect a song in 2019 to sound like.

8. Old Town Road

The Original of the famous song. In case you don’t care for the remix this song gives you a foundation of the one everyone knows. Obviously just a catchy as the remix and the variations are the same.

Let me know what you guys think of “7”.
