Jason Bateman (the “Horrible Bosses” films, TV’s “Arrested Development”) and Oscar nominee Rachel McAdams (“Spotlight,” “Dr. Strange”) team up in New Line Cinema’s action comedy “Game Night.”

John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein are directing the film, marking their second film as co-directors, following “Vacation.”

Joining Bateman and McAdams in the cast are Billy Magnussen (“Bridge of Spies,” TV’s “American Crime Story”), Sharon Horgan (Amazon’s “Catastrophe”), Lamorne Morris (TV’s “New Girl”), Kylie Bunbury (TV’s “Pitch,” “Under the Dome”), Jesse Plemons (“Black Mass,” TV’s “Fargo”), Danny Huston (“Wonder Woman,”X-Men Origins: Wolverine”), with Michael C. Hall (TV’s “Dexter” and “Six Feet Under”) and Kyle Chandler (“Manchester by the Sea,” TV’s “Bloodline”).

Bateman and McAdams star as Max and Annie, whose weekly couples game night gets kicked up a notch when Max’s charismatic brother, Brooks (Chandler), arranges a murder mystery party, complete with fake thugs and faux federal agents. So when Brooks gets kidnapped, it’s all part of the game…right? But as the six uber-competitive gamers set out to solve the case and win, they begin to discover that neither this “game”—nor Brooks—are what they seem to be. Over the course of one chaotic night, the friends find themselves increasingly in over their heads as each twist leads to another unexpected turn. With no rules, no points, and no idea who all the players are, this could turn out to be the most fun they’ve ever had…or game over.

Daley and Goldstein are directing “Game Night” from an original screenplay by Mark Perez (“Accepted”). John Davis (“Joy”), John Fox (TV’s “The Blacklist”), Jason Bateman and Jim Garavente (“Bad Words”) are producing, with Marc S. Fischer serving as executive producer. The behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Barry Peterson (“Central Intelligence,” “We’re the Millers”), Oscar-nominated production designer Michael Corenblith (“How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “Apollo 13”), editors Jamie Gross (“Vacation”), Gregory Plotkin (“Get Out”) and David Egan (“Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return”), and costume designer Debra McGuire (“Vacation,” “Ted”).

The film will be released worldwide beginning March 2, 2018. “Game Night” is a New Line Cinema presentation and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment company.

Taraji P. Henson (@TherealTaraji) Goes Full On Pam Grier in “Proud Mary!”(@ProudMaryMovie)

We thought the age of Blaxploitation films was over, but thankfully there is some nostalgia in the air still. Sony seems intent on capitalizing on that in its latest film, starring Taraji P. Henson, in Proud Mary!

We thought the age of Blaxploitation films was over, but thankfully there is some nostalgia in the air still. Sony seems intent on capitalizing on that in its latest film, starring Taraji P. Henson, in Proud Mary!

The film centers on Mary (Taraji P. Henson), a guilt-ridden hitwoman/mob enforcer who takes in an orphan, Danny (Jahi Di’Allo Winston) after killing his father. Mary is determined to make amends for what has transpired in Danny’s life after and goes after a drug lord from a rival mob family for it. The consequences are immense as she must soon find a way to cover her tracks, protect Danny, and finally leave the mob for good–something that is far easier said than done!

We have to say this film was just “okay.” What we really liked, of course, was the action. It was good seeing Taraji branch out into an action role. She definitely did that! The fight and shooting scenes were superb. Jahi Winston really sells the role of the troubled street kid that you cannot help but love. He and Taraji have great chemistry in a “faux mother-son” kind of way. Surprisingly, we saw Danny Glover and Margaret Avery reunite! As you know they were “Mister/Albert” and “Shug Avery” from The Color Purple.

What we did not like however, was that the film seemed rush. There definitely should have been more of a backstory for Mary. We did not get to see how she grew up, exactly what broke her and Tom (Billy Brown), or what really became of Danny’s mother. Furthermore, why didn’t Sony promote this film more? Taraji is a high profile actress you would think there would have been more advanced screenings and interviews with the cast. We definitely would not mind seeing a sequel (we aren’t sure how likely that will happen) where Danny, now a little older, has been trained by Mary and has to help her protect their new, peaceful life.

You all just be sure to catch Proud Mary in a theater near you, Happy viewing!

[TRAILER] NETFLIX’s (@netflix) ‘STEP SISTERS’ Stomps It Like It’s Hot on 1/19!

The first trailer for the upcoming Netflix dance comedy Step Sisters is out now!
via Press Release

The movie, which comes to the streaming service on January 19, is directed by Charles Stone III (Drumline) and written by Chuck Hayward (Dear White People) as well as Emmy Award® winner Lena Waithe (Master of None), Ben Cory Jones (Insecure) and stars Megalyn Echikunwoke, Naturi Naughton, Marque Richardson, and Matt McGorry.

Jamilah Bishop (Megalyn Echikunwoke) seems to excel at everything: She’s president of her sorority, captain of the step dance crew, liaison to the college dean and a star student who is on her way to Harvard Law School.

But when Jamilah is asked to teach a misbehaving, mostly white sorority how to step, success seems impossible. Without telling her own sorority sisters, Jamilah begins training rivals Sigma Beta Beta (SBB) for the “Steptacular” competitive dance competition.

Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman also serve as producers, and Patrick Murray and Josh Reinhold are executive producers on the film.

Netflix is really coming hard with its programming for 2018 out the gate! We have to say we will definitely be tuning into Step Sisters we are always down for a good step movie. It kind of reminds us of that movie, How She Move (2017), starring Queen Sugar’s Rutina Wesley. This film is definitely a far cry from anything Megalyn Echikunwoke has done before. We were hoping to see her in an Arrowverse spin-off (CW are you listening) You all just be sure to tune in on January 19th!

Yep, Woody Woodpecker is back and in his own movie!

Woody is not only back, but involved in a turf war as he takes on a big city lawyer bent on cutting down his tree house home to build a house of his own to flip. The hyperactive, red-headed prankster never backs down to a fight and naturally hijinks and mishaps ensue!

From the trailer we can clearly see the years have not only been good to Woody, but that this will be one seriously funny movie. We are surprised, however, that the film is not being released nationwide. It was created in Brazil and released nationally there, but here in the United States it is going straight to DVD; set to release on February 6, 2018.

We will definitely be sure we check this film out. There is so much nostalgia seeing Woody Woodpecker back in action. Besides giving hunters and other characters hell, we definitely loved the other cartoons that came on with him like Chilly Willy (“Ha, Hee, Hah-Choo!”), Andy Panda, Wally Walrus, and Inspector Willoughby! Check out a few episodes of Woody Woodpecker and the rest of the gang below! Happy viewing!
