Disney continues to push the envelope with its live action adaptations of its classic animated films. Sleeping Beauty (Maleficent), The Jungle Book, Pete’s Dragon, Cinderella, and Beauty & The Beast  have all received the treatment and now it is finally The Little Mermaid’s turn. However, in a twist no one saw coming, it is rumored that Zendaya has been cast as Ariel, the mermaid princess, who is fascinated with the surface world and falls for a Prince Eric, a handsome human prince!

The rumor mill is turning and the blogosphere is buzzing, but neither Zendaya or Disney have actually confirmed her role in the film, or even if she is a part of it. That, however, has not stopped some Little Mermaid fans–the racist kind–from spouting their distaste on social media, mostly Twitter. Check out a few of the tweets below:

pls explain me why black actresses playing white characters isn’t as racist as white actresses playing black characters

(yeah im throwing shades at all the people saying that Zendaya can play the little mermaid)

This is very disturbing as Ariel is a mermaid, a fictional sea creature, and not a human. Her ethnicity should not factor in any casting decision as she is not human. When White actors take on the role of characters that are of another ethnicity they are usually humans!

Zendaya, however, is no stranger to controversy surrounding her castings in different projects. She was originally cast to be in the Aaliyah biopic before backing out and she received a slew of racist harassment when she was cast as a version of Mary Jane Watson, Spider-Man’s traditionally Caucasian and red-headed love interest in Spider-Man Homecoming. We really love the idea of Zendaya playing Ariel. She is a phenomenal, beautiful actress with an amazing voice and she’s been a Disney kid for most of her life. What do you guys think of this controversial casting? Sound off in the comments section below!

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, a film that has grossed over $350 million in theaters worldwide to date, introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the iconic mask. “One of the most rewarding experiences in recent months has been to hear that children are telling their parents that they see themselves in Miles, or that they want to grow up to be like Spider-Gwen, anyone can be a hero. Thats why we made this film, and we hope that feeling of empowerment is something that both audiences young and old can take away,” say Directors Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman.

he talented actor and husband of Black Panther star, Angela Bassett, did not tiptoe around some questions about the superhero film’s upcoming sequel at Sunday’s 2019 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Vance, 58, joined his wife on the carpet ahead of Black Panther’s big wins, and the couple spoke with ET’s Nischelle Turner about the importance of the film and the highly anticipated second installment.

When asked if “everybody” would be coming back for the sequel, Bassett replied, “I would assume so.”

Vance quickly cut her off, noting, “Yes, just go ahead and say it, yes! Everyone will be there, including Michael B.”

Michael B. Jordan as “Eric Killmonger”

Michael B. Jordan’s villainous character, Eric Killmonger, seemingly died in the first film, but Bassett, 60, notes, “[We didn’t technically see him] go into the ocean, no.”

Jordan has previously confirmed to ET that director Ryan Coogler will be back for Black Panther 2, adding, “I know nothing else about it!” Could this also mean that even more presumed dead stars will be back after 2018’s epic final scene of Avengers: Infinity War? Possibly. How about including Vance in the MCU?

“Yeah, he could come into Wakanda!” Bassett declared of her husband.

“I just like the way it changed society,” Vance said of the film. “It was all about Wakanda forever. And those kind of films, when they come around you’ve got to lift them up… For me, that movie changed society, so give it what it’s due.”

Bassett agreed, noting, “A movie of this style, it has a hard time. It’s accepted by the audiences, of course it’s a global sensation, all of that, but the award [shows] tend to push them to the side. But it’s such a well-crafted, well-made, beautiful story — big moments, big themes, and I think it’s so utterly worthy.”

Thanks for the spoiler Courtney! We are sure Marvel Studios is going to change some things around at this point thanks to this news. We also doubt he will make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since he cannot keep his mouth shut. Then again, there’s always room for him in Wakanda, he’s no “colonizer.”
