Just when you thought Captain Marvel was virtually unstoppable in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), a rumor spawns that may through her a curve ball! Apparently, in an effort to introduce the mutant superhero team, X-Men, to the MCU, Rogue will appear in the next Captain Marvel movie.

Rogue vs. Captain Marvel

Rogue’s appearance in the next Captain Marvel film should not come as a surprise. Fans familiar with Marvel Comics know that Rogue began as a super villain, allied with her foster mothers, Mystique and Destiny, mutant terrorists and leaders of the team, The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Rogue’s original, and sole power set, was her signature ability to absorb superhuman powers, skills, and memories from others through physical contact. Her extra powers of flight and superhuman strength were abilities she “stole” by permanently absorbing Captain Marvel’s (then Ms. Marvel) powers permanently by holding on to her for too long. Captain Marvel was left comatose after her battle with Rogue for years and after struggled to become the hero she once was again.

We really hope Rogue does appear in the next Captain Marvel film! It is the perfect way to introduce her to the MCU! Also, she joins her fellow “X-Woman,” Psylocke by being an X-Men character rumored to be appearing in an upcoming Marvel Film. As we reported earlier, Psylocke may appear as “Lady Mandarin” in the upcoming “Shang-Chi” film.

What do you guys think? Are you hoping Captain Marvel and Rogue will come to blows in the next “Captain Marvel” film? Sound off in the comments’ section below!

Jahi Winston as “Mouse”

The one truth Mouse knows is that he loves the power, artistry and energy of “The Ride” — the exhilarating motorized-dirt-bike scene that is both pastime and passion on the streets of Baltimore. During one eventful summer, Mouse steers his way through two father figures, a first girlfriend, the pull of illegal choices and the thrill of stunt-riding that makes him and his friends feel like CHARM CITY KINGS.

Meek in “Charm City Kings”

We are really excited to see “Charm City Kings!” We personally know Jahi and he is one amazing young actor. Did you catch him in “Queen & Slim?” The film is reminiscent of “Biker Boyz” (2003), with the motorcycle motif. We have no doubt this film is going to amazing. Besides we want to see if Meek Mill has any real acting chops!

CHARM CITY KINGS will debut at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, followed by a release in NY/LA/Baltimore on April 10thand nationwide April 17th 2020.

The love is real when it comes to “Hair Love!” The animated short film just won a coveted Oscar for “Best Animated Short” at the 92nd annual Academy Awards!

hair love movie

The film centers on a little Black girl who’s father attempts to do her hair–with some challenges. The film ultimately normalizes and showcases Black hair as beautiful in all its forms and has been met with rave reviews and positivity since its debut last year.

The creator of the film, Matthew A. Cherry, and Karen Rupert Tolliver, the film’s producer, both feel “Hair Love” not onlu makes a powerful statement about Black hair, but also because they wanted to see more representation in animation.

Matthew and Karen also brought along DeAndre Arnold, a Black teen from Texas, suspended and barred from walking in his high school graduation because his locks “violate school policy.” We are completely here for “Hair Love” and all its messages! If you have not seen the animated short you can check it out below! Congratulations to everyone who made this project a success, you more than deserve it!

We are all for growth and expansion here at HeyMikeyATL, and are always elated when a great light flexes even more of her talent. That is exactly what Toni Bryce, a popular Atlanta actress, is doing with her latest venture, an independent film entitled “Best Thing I Never Had!”

Toni Bryce as “Brittany”

The film centers on the love story between a Black man and woman–with a twist. Toni states, “.. this relationship is no ordinary relationship. Dante, a Black Cis and Heterosexual identifying Man is openly dating Brittany, a Black Trans and Heterosexual identifying Woman. ‘Best Thing I Never Had’ chronicles the journey of their love story as Brittany learns to overcome her apprehension of whether Dante’s intentions are pure or evil. The story shows what it’s like for the two as they deal with raising children, reconciling friendships, and yearning for family acceptance while overcoming societal judgement and criticism. With the many challenges faced and bumps in the road, will this love last or will it all be a fairytale?”

Cast of “Best Thing I Never Had”

We have to say based on the synopsis we are highly intrigued by this story. It is out of the ordinary, and with society seemingly becoming more receptive to transgender rights and people, it makes the story timely and necessary for representation and perspective. Toni went on to reveal she wrote the film to show everyone deserves love and to experience something real. This project was formed from an Instagram post I made where I was just speaking on my opinion that the sex work narrative is old and played out. I wanted to see something more. So, the amazing artist, Di Thomas saw my story, screenshot it and sent it to Onyx Keesha and Coley. They wanted to meet with me, we met and I told them where I was speaking from and shared my own experiences…BUT the kicker was, they wanted me write the script because it’s coming from my own experiences…then not only that, but they suggested that I star in it as well. And now a year later, we have ‘Best Thing I Never Had’ short film.”

Toni hopes people will see the film as a real love story, like any other cinematic portrayal of love. I truly want people to see a story where they get to experience and journey with these characters where love between ‘othered’ people is normalized and OK. A story that gives men that are Trans-Affirming or Attracted a visual display of what their own happiness could look like if they’d only live for themselves and not what everyone else thinks about their happiness. A big part of my own reasons for being single is because my worth and value don’t matter to the men pursuing me because society tells them that they’re gay and less of a man for dating me. Where everything is an effort and a life changing decision that they don’t feel they’re ready to make. Thus, I’m hidden in a room and only explored sexually. My health, mental stability, goals, passions, career, desires, and etc are left outside the door for the sake of ‘I’m ready to nut!'”
Production of “Best Thing I Never Had” seems to be well under way as the film has already been cast, and they have already had their first table read. Check them out below:

We are really happy for Toni and excited to see this cast in action. Congratulations Toni on this project and all your future endeavors. It is needless to say, but your 2020 is shaping out to be “lit!”
