The Oscars are undoubtedly the biggest night in Hollywood. All of Hollywood’s A-List celebrities are in the building, the Red Carpet is always stunning, and some of our favorite films from the past year get the glory–or snub–they deserved!

This year’s nominations for the 92nd Annual Academy Awards are comprised of a number nods for films like “The Joker,” “The Irishman,” “Avengers: Endgame,” and “Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood!”

The 2020 Oscar nominations were announced live on Monday morning, a mere week after Ricky Gervais trashed talked Hollywood on the Golden Globes stage. Joker, helmed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of DC Comics, received the highest number of nominations (11 in total), including for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Lead Actor. Avengers: Endgame was the only other comic book-based blockbuster to receive a nomination (Best Visual Effects).

Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, and Sam Mendes’ 1917 tied for the second most nominations with 10 each. Parasite, with a total of six each, received a number of the higher profile nominations: the film earned on for Best Picture and International Feature Film, while Bong Joon-ho received one for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.

Every year always brings a number of snubs, and Greta Gerwig was a big one. The Little Women director did not get a nod for directing, though she did enter the Best Picture and Screenplay fields. A number of Oscar voters also outed themselves as members of the #PughHive, nominating Florence Pugh for Best Supporting Actress. Jennifer Lopez, one many hoped would enter that playing field for Hustlers, was not nominated.

John Cho of Star Trek Beyond and Issa Rae of Insecure revealed contenders for the 24 categories in an event streamed live on various internet platforms.

The landscape of the nominees this year is really amazing! Comic book inspired films are more and more becoming contenders for big awards and we feel it is well deserved. Characters like The Joker, have always been played with depth and layers, and then when it comes to the Avengers nomination, that movie had all the feels of raw emotion as all the superheroes struggled to deal with loss and sacrifice to restore the universe. Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlet Johansson, and Chris Evans all deserve some kind of recognition for their performances in the films. We are not surprised Jennifer Lopez was snubbed as we do not feel Hustlers warrants an Oscar. It is a great film, just not in the same vein as works from Quentin Tarentino, Martin Scorcese, or other big wigs in Hollywood.

You all just be sure to catch the Oscars on February 8th, 8 PM EST on ABC!

Warner Bros. is postponing Diana Prince’s return to the big screen. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, “Wonder Woman 1984” will now hit theaters on Aug. 14 instead of June 5.

“When we greenlit ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ it was with every intention to be viewed on the big screen and are excited to announce that Warner Bros. Pictures will be bringing the film to theatres on Aug. 14,” Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman, said in a statement. “We hope the world will be in a safer and healthier place by then.”

The delays were inevitable as multiplexes across the country remain closed to help halt the spread of the novel virus. Warner Bros. was always committed to debuting its “Wonder Woman” sequel in cinemas, and the studio felt it was realistic for theaters to be up and running again by August.

Wonder Woman 1984 is definitely the film we want to see the most this year. Especially since it is set in our birth year. We hate we have to wait a little longer to see Wonder Woman back on The Big Screen, but as they say “better safe than sorry.” We are praying the world will have returned to some type of normalcy by August.

Marvel’s Black Widow. Originally set to be with us on May 1st, the studio has now delayed the movie indefinitely, pulling it off the schedule and not giving us a new date for when we can expect it to open. Of course, it still will hit theaters at some point, but right now, we don’t know when that’ll be or how long we’ll need to wait to get a new release date.

Indeed, with the Coronavirus quickly spreading and showing no signs of slowing down, it seems like every major movie scheduled from now until at least July/August will be getting delayed, leaving the entertainment landscape pretty empty for the foreseeable future. Unless, of course, some of these titles end up on streaming platforms instead.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but for now, Marvel fans will have to wait a little longer for Phase 4 to kickoff with Black Widow, as it’ll no longer be here in May.

This really sucks. We were looking forward to the Black Widow movie. We are hoping and praying that coronavirus will will cured or at least contained soon. We guess we can count moviegoing as a way to get past the next few weeks of quarantine. Be safe everyone.

The Jurassic Park franchise is only gaining momentum with its third installment of its reboot, now titled Jurassic Park: Dominion! However, the title has left fans wondering has Earth been reclaimed for the dinosaurs and exactly how is humanity handling this. As you recall in the last film, many of the surviving dinosaurs from Jurassic Park were let loose into the world, including our beloved velociraptor, “Blue.”

The star of the film Chris Pratt, clarifies things, and states in fact the “Dominion” in the title means:

With the title reveal, Pratt spelled out dominion’s definition in a post on Instagram: “sovereignty or control. ‘man’s attempt to establish dominion over nature’ #JurassicWorldDominion Hold onto your butts.”

We cannot wait to see this film! We have rarely seen a situation–outside of Dinotopia–wehre humans have dominion over dinosaurs, or even seek to establish it. This next installment of Jurassic Park will be amazing. We will keep you posted as more details become available. Jurassic Park: Dominion is slated for release June 21, 2021.
