Will Smith definitely has his hands full over the next couple of years with a few big projects, including playing Venus and Serena Williams’ father in a biopic. The scheduling conflicts with these films has forced him to bow out of the sequel to Suicide Squad. As you recall, Smith played “Deadshot,” the gun-toting assassin turned anti-hero, with a near superhuman knack for markmanship. Thankfully, an equally cool actor, Idris Elba, is stepping in to take over the role!

Smith had to bow out of the upcoming DC Comics movie due to scheduling conflicts, and the studio moved fast to find another proven A-lister to replace him before production starts in September.

It’s currently unknown who will be joining Elba in the sequel, though many believe Margot Robbie will return as Harley Quinn. James Gun was tapped to write and direct the film. The release date is currently set for Aug. 6, 2021.

The original “Suicide Squad” — starring Smith, Jared Leto, Robbie — became a massive box office sensation when it hit theaters in 2016, grossing $746 million worldwide.

Elba is also starring in the upcoming Netflix series “Turn Up Charlie,” which bows this spring. Ahead of “Suicide Squad 2,” he will appear on the big screen for “The Fast and the Furious” spinoff “Hobbs and Shaw” alongside Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, as well as Universal and Tom Hooper’s “Cats” adaptation with Taylor Swift, James Corden, and Jennifer Hudson.

Will Smith was great as Deadshot, but Idris definitely comes off as grittier–something any Batman villain needs for a live action portrayal. What do you guys think of this recasting? Sound off in the comments’ section below!

Following two weeks of detainment in a Swedish jail as prosecutors investigated his involvement in a street altercation, A$AP Rocky will now be spending another six days behind bars after being deemed a flight risk.

A hearing in Stockholm District Court on Friday morning granted prosecutors’ request for more time to investigate the alleged assault, PEOPLE confirms. The prosecutor now has until Thursday, July 25 to decide whether to charge the rapper or not.

“The Court decided that the artist will remain in custody until 25 July, because of the flight risk. This gives us time to complete the investigation,” prosecutor Daniel Suneson said in a statement.

“We have worked intensively with the investigation and need more time, until Thursday next week in order to complete the preliminary investigation. As long as the preliminary investigation is ongoing, I cannot give any further comments.”

Neither a rep for A$AP Rocky nor his lawyer immediately responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

On July 2, A$AP Rocky, né Rakim Mayers, was arrested in Stockholm following a street altercation for suspected assault, along with three others who were involved in the incident — “two of whom were suspected of serious abuse and one of the abuse of the normal degree,” the prosecutor’s office said in a press release.

A$AP Rocky last appeared in Stockholm District Court with his previous attorney Henrik Olsson Lilja on July 5, and it was then that the judge ruled on the two-week investigation — though the possibility remained that he could be held for longer if prosecutors needed more time.

On July 9, a source close to the rapper told PEOPLE that the Swedish jail where A$AP Rocky was being held is “inhumane” and “horrific.”

“The conditions of the facility are horrific,” the source said. “Some of the inhumane conditions Rocky and his colleagues are facing at the Stockholm Detention Center include 24/7 solitary confinement, restriction of amenities for the most basic of human functions, access to palatable and life-sustaining food as well as unsanitary conditions.”

“Rocky is now being detained for an unknown period of time until they have a trial and he is having his legal and basic human rights ignored while being forced to live in inhumane conditions — all for acting in self-defense,” the source alleged.

We hate to hear A$AP Rocky is still incarcerated, and are praying for his speedy release and return home. He should not travel abroad for awhile–or at least nowhere in Northern Europe!

Pinkett Smith, 47, told People in a new interview that she “never wanted to get married” — but felt pressured into it by her family.

“I had never seen a happy marriage,” she told People, saying she “adored” her partner, but did not want to marry.

Her mother, known as Gammy, called Will crying — which Pinkett Smith said was “infuriating” — and the meddling mom said “You have to get married.”

The couple married on New Year’s Eve in 1997 when Pinkett Smith was in her first trimester of pregnancy with son Jaden, now 20. The pair also share daughter Willow, 18. And Will has a son, Trey, 26, from his first marriage to Sheree Zampino.

Pinkett Smith told People that she’s happy she did get married, but that she and Smith, 50, still do not label themselves as married.

“It’s more of a life partnership … I don’t own him. He doesn’t own me. He has to be his own person first, and vice versa … Love is freedom,” Pinkett Smith told People.

We are glad The Smiths have worked out and are continuing to make each other better people. Kudos to Jada for being so transparent!

On Friday, Variety reported that actress Melissa McCarthy is in “early talks” to join the project as the tentacled villain from the original 1989 movie.

But fans on Twitter immediately put up the “Truth Hurts” singer as the perfect person for the role.

Lizzo agreed. She even shared a 2018 video of herself dressed up as Ursula, and singing a rendition of “Poor Unfortunate Souls” from the movie.

“I’M URSULA. PERIOD,” she wrote alongside the video.

We have to say we are #TeamLizzo when it comes to her playing Ursula. She has the size, voice, charisma, and she’s a really amazing singer. Melissa needs to show us she’s got the chops to pull off Poor, Unfortunate Souls. It’s easy all all she has to do is perform a few bars and won’t cost her anything–but her voice!
