Glitz, glamour, celebrity premieres, amazing events, and nights illuminated by camera flashes. This is the rarefied air of Hollywood, a place known for its ability to make a relative nobody into the “somebody,” everyone will know tomorrow. What does it take to make in this industry? What are the sacrifices? So many lose themselves among the lights that they soon forget who they are, or even where they came from. This definitely cannot be said of Ser’Darius Blain. Ser’Darius is a leading man in a new wave of actors taking Tinsel Town by storm. For many of us, he came on our radar thanks to his starring role in Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, but there is so much more to this amazing man. Indeed 2018 will be the year of Ser’Darius Blain! “I have a few things in the works that are pretty awesome, and I’m really excited for people to see all of them.”

Acting seems as natural as breathing for Ser’Darius, especially because he has been doing it since he was twelve years old. “…acting is pretty amazing and believe it or not as a kid I use to be really shy and was always up under my mom…I overcame that thanks to my girlfriend at the time…There’s a lot of work that goes into it. Most people really don’t realize, but I love getting to do what I do…” As aforementioned, Mr. Blain came on to our radar in Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, a reboot/sequel of sorts of the original Jumanji. Here, Ser’Darius plays “Anthony ‘Fridge’ Johnson,” a cocky high school athlete who, alongside a few other students, gets trapped inside an old Jumanji video game. Fridge then becomes the playable character, zoologist Franklin “Mouse” Finbar, portrayed by Kevin Hart.

Jumanji had a star studded cast with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Nick Jonas, and Jack Black alongside, as aforementioned Kevin Hart. Ser’Darius revealed he loved working around such veteran actors. “Man it was amazing, when you have so much talent around you, you really learn a lot. Kevin [Hart] is hilarious that’s all I can say, like the man is seriously funny and crazy…it was a great experience and I’d love to work with them all again…” We are not sure what the cast for the next Jumanji sequel looks like, but we know it makes its debut in December 2019. We just hope that Ser’Darius is back on board with even more laughs. We would love to see Fridge on the forefront of the action this time around. Maybe with some real world super powers the game grants him. It’s just a thought movie gods!

Yes, we loved Ser’Darius in Jumanji, but it is his upcoming role in The CW’s Charmed reboot that has us stoked! Yep, “The Power of Three” is back on television, with a new trio of sisters– Macy (Madeleine Mantock), Mel (Melonie Diaz) and Maggie Vera (Sarah Jeffery)—who come into their powers after the death of their mother. Ser’Darius will play the role of “Galvin,” Macy Vaughn’s love interest and a fellow scientist. “I can’t tell you a lot about the show due to contract [he laughs], but Galvin’s a cool dude and he’s going to be there for the sisters. I can tell you he plays a pretty important role in their lives.” The first trailer for the reboot dropped earlier this month and has been met with mixed reviews. When a Charmed reboot was first announced many assumed it would be a continuation of the original series by Aaron Spelling, starring Shannen Doherty (Prue Halliwell), Alissa Milano (Phoebe Halliwell), Holly Marie Combs (Piper Halliwell), and later Rose McGowan (Paige Matthews); especially since all of the actresses expressed interests in reprising their roles and the comic book series continues their storylines. As a true fan of the original series we are definitely here for something out of the ordinary with the series. Sometimes a reboot is better off as a revamp! Either way if Ser’Darius is in the mix you know it is going to be a hit! You just make sure you tune into Charmed this Fall on The CW!

If there is one thing Mr. Blain prides himself on being great at besides acting, it would have to be fatherhood. Unbeknownst to most—anyone who is too lazy to check his Instagram profile (LOL) he is the father of a four year old boy. “I love my little man. What can I say, he’s my motivation and I try to spend as much time with him as possible…his mother and I are not together, but we are great co-parents and both do what it takes to make sure he has everything he needs.” Fatherhood definitely suits him and his son is one of the cutest kids you will ever see. It seems like there is nothing Ser’Darius can’t do and we are truly enjoying his rise to the top. He advises all aspiring actors to “Keep God first. When he’s first, everything else falls into place…”

It’s not everyday you get to sit down and talk with someone so profound it makes you rethink what you are doing in your life—or with it—for that matter. They say it is never too late to make a change, and no one knows this better than Demetrius “D. Nash” Nash!
Hosted by popular Atlanta blogger and media personality, Michael “Hey Mikey” Fanning, Kontrol Magazine got the chance to pick the brain of this truly “woke” and magnificent man recently during one of our increasingly popular “Kontrol Live” interviews. We chose to speak with D. Nash thanks to the timeliness and relevancy of his work. As you may already know his claim to fame took place when he marched from Chicago to Washington, D.C., in protest of police brutality and racial inequality in our country on the tail end of the unjust killing of Laquan McDonald.

The power and inspiration of that march not only surprised and inspired millions, but opened eyes to the severity of tragedies and dangers of being Black in America. One would think that in the 21st Century, racism would be a thing of the past; but people of color know this to be a fallacy. In his interview, D. Nash points out not only the blatant racism and racial profiling African-Americans are wrought with, but systematic oppression as well as his own origins.

We were surprised to hear about his past as virtual drug lord, but even more impressed that after an eight year long sentence he reintegrated back into society and is now making a huge difference in the life others by using his own experience and enlightenment to inspire the masses.

Times are indeed as hard as ever as we question what it means to be Black in America and the ongoing fight for equality and self-sufficiency. There really can be a Wakanda when we cast down our buckets where we stand!

For the first time in years she is finally speaking out about what happened with her prior relationship with Michael Jordan and the case.

On Wednesday, March 21, Pamela Smith opened up to me about the entire experience.

How did you and Michael Jordan meet?

“We met in the late 1980’s ( full story on how we met is in the Book)”

Pamela Smith released a book recently titled, “Love, Sex, and Power” which tells the full story of her relationship with the former NBA player and more. The book is available on her website and can be found on Amazon and in Barnes & Nobles.

Did Michael Jordan ever agree to the paternity test?

“The civil case was based on a Georgia statue and law, when it comes to a child being born, before birth automatically the parents through marriage is said to be the father. (not the biological father).”

Why do you feel he has been avoiding the paternity test?

“He avoided the test based on Money not the GA statue.”

How does your son feel about what has happened with the case thus far?

“My son felt Michael should have spoken up or at least acknowledged the relationship existed.”

Does your son want a relationship with Michael Jordan?

                                                                         “No”

What are you in hopes of gaining from this case? Do you simply just want Michael Jordan to acknowledge his son?

“The book is about repairing the lie. Michael stated he did not have a relationship with me prior to his first marriage.”

How has this entire experience affected your life and your son’s life?

“It affects us based on the lie told but not the truth. In the end its his loss for not having a relationship with his son.”

Do you feel that due to Michael Jordan’s status that they are mistreating you with the handling of this case?

“Yes, because of his money and status, people assume he has power. So they would do anything for money even if it lies or damages the other person. That’s why in my book you can read the truth and see the proof. That’s the glory in it……”

“My book is my Memoir of the Love, Sex, and Power of my relationship with one of the Greatest Of All Time Basketball stars Michael J. Jordan. I believe we shared the journey of real love and friendship. A love that would last forever, yet never seen.” -Pamela Smith

Pamela Smith simply wants Michael Jordan to stop pretending the relationship never existed and to face the truth about his alleged son. In her new book Smith tells it all about her relationship with the NBA legend. You can get your copy of the book by clicking HERE.

I must admit her son looks just like Michael Jordan so hopefully he will just come forth and take the test and lay this matter to rest.

The Hathaways, Gays, O’Jays, Jacksons, DeBarges, Ross/Gordy are the most important families in our music history. Their legacies influence and impact, generation after generation. One member of the aforementioned dynasties continues to wow us. Her government name is Eulaulah Donyll Hathaway, with her forename meaning the highest praise when spelled backwards. And to us, this legend is affectionately known as “Lalah.” She’s collaborated with eminent talents like Pharrell Williams on the Hidden Figuressoundtrack, and Kendrick Lamar, to name a couple. Her performance history, meanwhile, has seen invitations to the stage from epic artists including Prince; Stevie Wonder; Herbie Hancock and Anita Baker. With her new album honestly now available online and in-stores, there are no limits.

Hathaway has shaped a career so impressive; having an autographed CD of hers is enviable. It’s a collector’s item, real memorabilia that won’t escape your history box; a selfie as currency isn’t enough. It’s industry veterans like Hathaway who detest social media during live shows for many reasons.

“When it comes to social media, Hathaway’s wish is for fans to enjoy the moment, the live experience. She shares, “When I am trying to connect with people in the crowd and I’m seeing iPads instead of faces, it’s this reminder that people don’t feel like it’s real unless it’s in their phones now. I really hate it for them that they pay for a ticket and basically come to look at YouTube. They are missing the real life experience!”

A five-time Grammy Award winner, including wins as Artist and Producer for 2017’s Best R&B Album Lalah Hathaway Live, Hathaway recently completed a six-week run with the “Strength of a Woman” tour opening for Mary J. Blige and as she sits in our studio at rolling out headquarters in Atlanta’s West Midtown section, she opens up about her yearning to sleep in her own bed, cook a meal and play with her 11-year-old Bichon Frise, Boston, while she catches up on her favorite shows that she’s TiVo’d – especially HBO’s “Insecure.”

Her newest offering, honestly is an invitation to go on a “journey that is intimate, disruptive and, time-appropriately, honest.”

This is true poetry! You can catch the rest of Lalah’s amazing interview by clicking here. Happy reading!
