Today is officially the BEST DAY EVER! Disney and Fox have reached a $54 Billion Dollar deal, granting Disney the rights to the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and other television properties like the X-Files, and gain a majority stake in Hulu.

Today, Rupert Murdoch—Fox’s executive chairman—expressed his confidencein the acquisition’s potential to strengthen both companies:

“We are extremely proud of all that we have built at 21st Century Fox, and I firmly believe that this combination with Disney will unlock even more value for shareholders as the new Disney continues to set the pace in what is an exciting and dynamic industry.”

News of the deal comes after early reports that Fox proper was looking to unload 21st Century Fox in favor of focusing more on news and sports, its two other largest business endeavors. For Fox, this deal means a rather hefty payday but for Marvel, it’s more of a long-overdue homecoming.

For years now, some of Marvel Entertainment’s most iconic characters that first put the comics publisher on the map back in the 70s have been locked out of the MCU because of deals made during the 90s in which Marvel sold off the film rights to properties like the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and Deadpool. Now, Marvel can get to work on changing that, but it doesn’t mean that it will or even should happen anytime soon. Properties like Avatar, The Simpsons, FX Networks and National Geographic will also fold into Disney’s portfolio according to the official release.

While Fox’s X-Men and Fantastic Four movies weren’t always particularly good, the studio was finally in the process of beginning to carve out a rather distinctive and honestly refreshing voice in the superhero movie space with films like Logan, Deadpool, and The New Mutants. The sequels to the latter two movies are still due to be released on schedule (no word on the X-23-focused Logan followup) but there’s no telling what Marvel plans to do with its new toys now that it has them.

Side note, the true shade is the merger did not include Fox News. Clearly Disney has no time for the bullshit! #NoAlternativeFactsHere. Now transitioning on to better news, this means Storm and Black Panther will be an item, we may get that Avengers vs. X-Men movie, and above all else all of our favorite Marvel heroes get screen time together. We are just wondering how the two universes will merge. Maybe the Reality Stone, one of the Infinity Stones will play a part in making this happen? This a good look and an amazing business move Disney move! You have fanboys everywhere bowing in thanks!

Breaking News! #DEVELOPING–Disney (@Disney) In Talks to Buy Most of Fox (@21CF)!

By business deal we mean that Disney is in talks to buy most of 21st Century Fox!

Christmas may finally come early this year as entertainment giants, Disney and 21st Century Fox, are talking a major business deal.

By business deal we mean that Disney is in talks to buy most of 21st Century Fox!

As you know, Disney and Fox are two of the major players in the superhero movie genre. Disney acquiring Fox would totally change the landscape and possibilities for one of its biggest subsidiaries, Marvel Studios, home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fox currently owns the movie rights to the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and related properties like Deadpool, X-Force, Silver Surfer, and even the rights to “mutants” in general when it comes to any Marvel-related film.

According to CNBC, the buzz around the talks is that a deal will come to fruition due to Fox being rather bullish about its desire to let go of its purely entertainment branch. If and when Disney is back in possession of the rights that 21st Century Fox currently holds, it would mean that Marvel Studios could finally bring a number of classic Marvel properties like the X-Men and the Fantastic Four into its shared cinematic universe.

While Marvel Studios (which is owned by Disney) has regained the rights to properties in the past, this would undoubtedly be one of the studio’s most important acquisitions in its history given its potential. Fox’s claim to the X-Men has kept a number of key stories from Marvel’s comics involving mutants off the table for Marvel Studios in the past, but this deal could lay the groundwork for something like an Avengers vs. The X-Men film down the line.

Update: Bloomberg is now reporting that while talks between Disney and Fox did take place over the past few weeks, talks have now stalled. This doesn’t necessarily say anything about the potential deal one way or the other, but obviously, this story is developing.

We are really hoping Fox sells its soul to Disney. How many of us want to see Black Panther and Storm together, or for that matter a Avengers vs. X-Men movie! Let’s keep our fanboy fingers crossed!
