Multi-platinum and seven-time Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter, artist, actress and producer Toni Braxton is set to receive the coveted Don Cornelius Legend Award. Braxton became an immediate R&B superstar after the release of her self-titled debut album in 1993. Her debut album received multiple awards, including three Grammy Awards (for Best New Artist and two consecutive awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 1994 and 1995). Her second album, “Secrets” was certified 8x platinum and included her greatest hit titled, “Un-Break My Heart,” the Diane Warren-penned ballad which spent 11-weeks at number one. Over the span of her career, Braxton has sold over 67 million records, including 41 million albums, worldwide. Toni’s current single, “Deadwood,” was released by Def Jam Recordings in September and her new album, “Sex & Cigarettes,” her first in seven years, will be out in early 2018.

The third annual Lady of Soul Award will be presented to Grammy Award-Nominated, multi-platinum, female R&B trio SWV. SWV became one of the most successful R&B groups of the 1990s. They had a series of hits, including “Weak,” “Right Here/Human Nature,” “I’m So into You,” and “You’re the One.” They have sold more than 25 million records, making them one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. Last year’s Lady of Soul Award went to R&B icon Brandy. Both Toni and SWV are being recognized for their longstanding presence in the music industry and influence on the world of soul and R&B music past and present.

The loss of any life is a true tragedy, and a time to reflect and honor that person’s absence. Today, we pause to do the same as we are deeply saddened to report R&B diva, Aretha Franklin, has passed at the age of 76.

Aretha Franklin, as known as “The Queen of Soul,” due to her gospel music and blues roots, was one of the greatest singers of all time. She is greatly revered by other legendary singers like Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight; and influenced the sound of careers of singers like Whitney Houston, Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey, and still countless others.

Ms. Franklin passed earlier today at 9:50 AM from “advanced pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type, which was confirmed by Franklin’s oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips of Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit,” in a statement from her family. Her death comes just three days after it was reported to CNN anchor, Don Lemon, that Aretha was now in hospice care.

A few celebrities have also remembered her in their own way:

This is a great loss and a tragedy that millions of people are mourning today. This amazing woman touched so many lives, made so much amazing music, and is now immortalized through her life’s work as one of the greatest singer to have ever graced the face of this Earth. Our thoughts, prayers, well wishes, condolences, and love are with her family and friends during this dark hour.

Below we have posted a few of our favorite songs by Aretha Franklin. We definitely encourage you to share your own, or even comment your memories or experiences with Ms. Franklin. May she now fly high, God Bless.

The last two years of Tyrese’s life feel like one long soap opera that just keeps on dragging out story lines. Just when we thought the R&B would be laying low for awhile more news pops up about his finances. Apparently Tyrese is saying he cannot afford his lifestyle nor to pay his estranged wife, Norma Gibson’s, attorney fees.

via TMZ

Tyrese just filed docs responding to Norma Gibson‘s request for him to pay for her divorce attorney, and they reveal some serious monthly expenses. According to the docs, Tyrese says he’s dropping about nearly $114k each month for his mortgage, child care, groceries, utilities and $10k in child support payments to Norma.

Here’s where that number becomes a problem — Tyrese says in the docs he’s only bringing in $51k on average each month. Doesn’t take a math genius to see he’s in the red. In fact, he says his savings have dwindled from $800k in cash last November to just $130k now.

He’s also blaming Norma for his lack of income these days — saying the negative coverage he got last year when she accused him of domestic violence … has made it hard for him to book movie work.

We are not really sure what to make of Tyrese’s claims. We do know for a fact he gets royalty checks for his past albums and he has made millions of dollars off The Fast & The Furious franchise. If he is broke, and that is a big IF, then where has his money gone? We really hope this custody battle between he and Norma is resolved soon and that Tyrese seeks professional help to get through his recent crises. What do you guys think? Is Tyrese really broke or do you think he is playing the system and avoiding giving Norma those coins? Sound off in the comments’ section below!
